British Royal Marines Carlist War questions
« on: March 06, 2020, 04:39:22 PM »
The British Royal Marines served in the First Carlist War.  I'm currently painting a unit  of them and hoping someone can help with the following questions.

I'm presuming the RM carried a single colour the union flag with anchor.  Is that correct?

Did RM nco's ever carry a spontoon?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I think the answer is no to both, the Marines were drawn from ships companies that were off the Northern coast of Spain so did not carry a flag  and I think spontoons had already been phased out by the Carlist War by all arms including the Marines.

As a flag guy i always say go for a flag, purely as it makes the games look good.

I'm convinced, especially as I have the figure and the flag.

Yeah, I have SYW grenadier battalions that came with standards. I know they didn't carry them, but it looks nice.

Yes, a bit of artistic license and it saves me buying another pack of figures only to use 2 of them.  Of course I could do two battalions of Marines but my BAL contingent is already too large and I'm going to add the Rifles too.

Thanks for the replies.  I thought you might like to see the finished unit.

Thank you both.

This month QRF are releasing 15mm BAL Rifles and gun crews all round.  That means I can finally complete my First Carlist War armies.
