15mm Scifi Gruundar
« on: March 06, 2020, 06:33:47 PM »
Hello again all,
15mm Alien Space dwarfs from Load ninja/ Alternative Armies . Can't remember what they were called. .
They're chunky & nice in a fuggly sort of way ( if one can say that !!! )

They could fill the role of Prospectors, Belters , Mercs , Traders ..... I based them on those plastic ( 20mm ?) pop off disks one gets from UK standard electrical boxes. These disks are usually thrown away which is a pity as they make great bases. The downside is that they're not magnetic like coins so I can't hold them with my magnet + cork figure painting holder.

The droids are scratchbuilt.

I'll show the scratchbuilt vehicles soon.

Thanks for your comments.

Again figs lovely, but please put some flora on the bases. I think
it would show off your figures.

Your project  is very interesting.

I leave my bases clean and smooth painted in a cement grey color, for most of my gaming is generally in urban environments. I'll  get around to posting more of my figures so one can see.

I do like the Praang don't have any yet though! Like the lime green colour you've gone for it really works on those figs.  :o

Thanks again all,

Has been - you are right 100 % , adding stuff to bases does enhance a mini ( each one becomes a sort of mini diorama ) & I do use this ( BUT ... it depends on what I have envisioned the whole picture to be  ). Apart from that terrain varies a lot by Terran standards imagine what alien worlds will look like. There are also place which are barren with no foliage except perhaps for some lichen or moss.

Brummie . It does indeed... I was going to go for a brownish scheme using ochres, burnt sienna & chocolate but then decided on this. I think they would be great a Non-Tau also. I can imagine them in blue colours also.

WM , yes please do so. Always nice to see what others are doing.

But remember here on earth the 'terrain' is mainly green, grey & blue,
but humans are not. I like the blue skins, but think a contrasting base
colour would look better. It could be alien in colour, just something other
than the same shade of blue.

A contrasting colour would indeed make sense & would look quite nice but what if the colour scheme is a form of camo and has to blend with the terrain.?

Not arguing, actually this is quite an interesting discussion. I try to put a reason behind why a model would have this & would do that.

Though personally the idea of camo in the far future with heaven knows how many electronic devices there will be doesn't make much sense....  most probably they'll have friend or foe seeking bullets or some other contraption.

Zrunelord, good point about camo, but how many of us paint wonderful camo,
from WW2 onwards, yet want the figure to stand out on their base? The logical
thing would be to have them merge into the base. I did once see a demo game
where not even the players spotted where the (well camouflaged) sniper was.

On a lighter note. In one of the Asterix books, the Centurion came out to inspect
the patrol due to try & sneak up on the Gaulish village. "Wonderful!" he said, "Who
said the art of camouflage was dead in the Roman Army?". The Decurian then
points out, "Er, that is the kitchen hedge, this is the patrol" and points to a row
of sad legionaries, each with a small twig in his helmet.

Love Asterix & it brings back warm memories.

Only basic camo is possible in 15mm but it has different results either note effective or too effective that it hides all details !!! ;) like these O8 little green men.... which you can find here

Thanks Ockman,
Steal away my friend, no prob.

you can do it in 2 ways.

Grey undercoat , black wash, very light grey drybrush, different shades of grey ( no not the film !!!  ;) )

Black undercoat, very light grey drybrush & again different shades of grey.

Webbing & pouches highlighted in light grey & lined with black.

Both give different results & both will obscure all detail...it's camo after all  :D
