Another vote for Galleria Matt Varnish.

I have in the past added some Tamiya Flat Base X - 21 to the mix, but in recent years have not bothered.

Good luck.

I've used Vallejo for all my more recent models, as the Windsor & Newton we get here in the New World seems to be off in some regard.

I’m in the Old World but switched to Vallejo about 18 months ago for a similar reason. I’d bought two new bottles (different outlets) of Galleria Matt but both left a prominent shine.

Generally speaking gloss lacquer has an edge over matt lacquer when it comes to durability. For this reason I use a off-the-shelf gloss rattle can lacquer over the paint job, which I cover with a really thin layer of brushon matt acrylic lacquer.

I use this brand...

Dirt cheap and  very effective.

Windsor & Newton Galeria matt varnish, too. I can even get it through my airbrush without thinning .

+10 for Galleria from W&N.  :)

For those who tried it and found it shiny, its best left upside down to settle, and only use the residue from inside the cap. It's also important to slap it on and leave it as if you go back to touch it up when it's only half dry it spoils the finish and it's really hard to correct with subsequent coats. I'd recommend leaving it a good 12 hours before retouching.

AK do a matte and an ultra matte. Ultra is tooooooo matte if used over a gloss, you'll get slightly opague 'white' sections in recesses. The matte is a bit more forgiving.

Sorry, got a bit "button happy" there and only just realised. Quite right Jagannath, I had a bottle of AK Ultra come through the post yesterday and sure enough there were the opaque patches. I'll have to save it for vehicles that need an extreme flat finish. Then tomorrow it's off to the shops for a Windsor and Newton Galleria and try again. Back to the drawing board as they say!
Many thanks again to one and all for your input and rest assured I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

The Matte (not Ultra Matte) is quite good, worth trying.

Another vote for Galleria Matt Varnish.  I still add Tamiya Flat Base to the mix.   Probably picked that up from dampfpanzerwagon years ago. :)

I use Windsor and Newton Artists Acrylic Matt UV Varnish.  Shake the bottle for 20 seconds and apply with a brush.  It does the job very well.
