Nic from Eureka Miniatures has announced the return of their '100 club' to sponsor a 28mm Australian Home Guard project.

See announcement from their Facebook page:

Quote
The 100 Club has been brought back to life. One of our customers recently found footage of the Australian Home Guard whilst researching an historical project.

https://www.britishpathe.com/…/on-guard-home-…/query/Malvern

As this fits in perfectly with our ‘Right Bloody Mess’ range we want to see how many customers would be interested in purchasing 28mm Australian Home Guard. The figures would be sculpted by Kosta Heristanidis.

Our proposed list is below, the number in brackets would be the number of variants. Price would be AUD$2.95 per figure (plus GST if purchased in Australia). The Vickers gun and two crew would be AUD$11 (plus GST if purchased in Australia).

• Home Guard/Ex-diggers with Rifles (6)
• Home Guard/Ex-digger Lewis Gun and Loader (2)
• Home Guard/Ex-digger Vickers with crew (1)
• Home Guard/Ex-diggers with beer bottle bombs (4)
• Home Guard/Ex-diggers in hessian sack “ghillie” suits with rifles (4)

Please contact us by e-mail at nicr@eurekamin.com.au with your pre-orders. Our target is to reach AUD$3000 in order to complete the project. If we achieve over AUD$3000 we might "even scrounge up a ‘dummy’ tank". This offer is open until 30 April 2020.

I'll be backing these for at least a platoon's worth as these are perfect for my own Australian Civil War project, but they should be generic enough to see use in most VBCW projects.

Kosta is a very talented sculptor, and I am extremely excited to see this range produced.

Nic showed me the film last time I was in the shop. I'm up for another platoon's worth plus extras. Perfect for fighting against/for the White Army and should mix nicely with the Soviet partisans I use for generic irregulars.

Cool, passing this on.

I'm going to see if I can bend Nic's ear to add at least an officer to the planning, but maybe some other characters too.

What else do people think this range would benefit from?
  • Regular Army officer/liaison
  • Dispatch rider - Bicycle
  • Scout - Horse
  • Mortar team - WW1 era Trench Mortar
  • Military Police team
  • Padre

A 3" mortar would be nice, as would some gun crew for an 18pdr

I think it would rather benefit from having some uniformed CMF although I suppose they could be sourced/ proxied  by using WW1 British from other ranges. Some mounted and dismounted Light Horse figures would be nice or even a mounted De Groot personality figure  waving his sword but that's probably a whole other range. and I for one am not scratch building the Sydney coat hanger. There's a suitable  officer in Eureka's  Gallipoli two up vignette if you are looking for one.

Thinking in the opposite direction, ie as actual WW2 era VDC, maybe some Japanese submarine crew?

Glad to see these happening and Kosta getting his mojo back. Maybe one day he can do a range of WW2 Australians in temperate kit for Greece and Crete.  ;)

Might be able to use the figure at the end  :)

That's a cracking pack for anyone gaming VBCW or ARBM. You'll find a use for all figures, not just the LMG :D

The AMOSA Military Museum here at Keswick, Adelaide (I'm a Volunteer Guide there) has one of the modified MG08/15's on display looks more complete than the AWM one...

There is a cabinet at the museum dedicated to the VDC...

...and a couple of cool pictures!

Cheers!

Today I've put together a new blog post with some scale comparisons between Eureka Miniatures and a few other common ranges in response to questions about Eureka's compatibility. I've replicated them here for ease of access.

Left to right - Footsore Miniatures, Eureka Miniatures, Artizan Designs

Left to right - Woodbine Design Company, Eureka Miniatures, Brigade Games

Left to right - Warlord Miniatures (Ex-BAM), Eureka Miniatures, Sloppy Jalopy (Eureka Head)

If you're interested in more about my project, I've also included a tester for my Trades Hall militia, as well as a brief overview of one of the 'Independent' factions that will be gracing my table.

A direct link to the post along with larger photos can be found here.

Trades Hall Militia? You know that the VTHC has a not so secret but devastating weapon?

It’s the Victorian Trade Union Choir, a group so unmusical, so tuneless and just so generally dire, it can make grown men cry. It’s certainly brought me close to tears on a number of occasions. Fuck only knows why they do’t deploy them against the bosses rather than the workers.

Think Cacofonix from the Asterix cartoons and dial it up to 11.
