Lighting effect on floors (for bases)
« on: March 12, 2020, 02:36:31 PM »
Anyone have, or know of, images showing 25/28mm figures based where the base design features coloured lighting effects?  Sci Fi, Cyberpunk or Fantasy, it is the base I am looking at not the figures.

I know of plenty of "lava" glow effects but that is not what I need.  I am trying to match figure bases to 2D floorplans featuring a lot of neon lighting effects on dark backgrounds.

The first one that came to mind was Mike McVey's Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster. The studio miniatures do have several bases with lights on them.

And then there are the myriad of offerings for games like Infinity:

Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I can certainly see the temptation in that. A great excuse to tinker around with LED's and Arduino's...  ;D

Would be worth seeing!

But no, not a disco.  Something to work with the game tiles that come with many of the boardgame/skirmish games (Hybrid-Nemesis, Dungeon Saga, HINT, Mansions of Madness etc) where floor lighting is prominent for atmosphere.

The tiles feature different floor surfaces, tiles, planks, metal, grilles etc so there is no "standard" texture to use as the basis, so I am hunting for examples to find a neutral approach that is the best fit to the various backgrounds.
Currently I have done some tests with a very slight grit texture drybrushed dark grey over black with patches of different colours painted/inked on. Looks OK, but before basing the set of figures I am checking there isn't a better way out there somewhere.
