'Band of Brothers'...
« on: March 15, 2020, 02:22:26 PM »
My latest wargaming project is painting up a unit of American Paratroops in 1:48 scale, excellently rendered miniatures that are a joy to paint. As inspiration I'm also watching, again, the HBO 'Band of Brothers' mini series. I'd forgotten how good it was. All this has got me well and truly into the deeds of Easy Company in general and Dick Winters in particular. I read Stephen Ambrose's book some years ago, it's a tad hazy in my memory these days though!
So, which of these gives the best insight into Easy Company's one time CO...

Band of Brothers'... Stephen Ambrose

'Biggest Brother: The Life of Major Dick Winters'... Larry Alexander

'Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters'

???
"Wot did you do in the war Grandad?"

"I was with Harry... At The Bridge!"

"Granddad were you a Hero in the war?"

"No, but I served in a Company of Heroes."

Dick Winters.

A nice project indeed.  What figures will you'll be using for 1:48?

This looks like a fun project.

Of  the three novels, I've read Band of Brothers and I'm fairly certain I've read Biggest Brother. If you are looking for insight into Dick Winter's life, Biggest Brother would make more sense.

Are you going to do all or some of the main characters?
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Not sure really as regards personalities, as eight figures a side is about tops for one side in FFofL. I want Winters as the CO/Leader with a Sergeant, BAR Gunner, Bazooka and the rest riflemen for starters. Somewhere though, I'm going to have to find a place for the sinister, beetle browed, Lt. Spears!

Oh that's right 1-48 Tactic.  I really like their terrain stuff...especially the dead dude in the Kubelwagen model.
