Great job, trev!
There are errors on one banner. I marked how to fix it:

By the way, the Bolsheviks had much more beautiful banners. You can find some ideas here:

Zheleznyakov was indeed an anarchist. By the way, in the Red Army there were many not only Bolsheviks, but also representatives of other left parties. But periodically they raised uprisings, and either perished in internecine strife, or transferred to the Bolshevik party.
As for hairstyles - at that time no one controlled them. This was characteristic of the 60s, when Khrushchev fought against "bourgeois cultural influence." Here is a portrait of one of the Bolshevik military leaders Antonov-Ovseenko:

Doh!  Thanks for the spell checking.  I know what I did there.  I messed up the missing letters on the first line, painted over them and then forgot to re-add them.  The trials of writing in a language you don't really understand.  The third error is just a transliteration mistake.

I have corrected the flag and the blog, so nobody will follow my stupid mistakes now.  :P

I had already seen that great thread on your forum.  There is a link already on my blog pages. :D  I have written more about the phrases used and the sources too.  I mainly wussed out of doing the more complicated and beautiful flags but also I felt they were more used later in the Civil War or in the 1920s.   The simpler flags were also less unit or time specific.  Perhaps I have also unfairly imposed an English puritanism on Russian Republicans.  ;)

My understanding of the war in Siberia is that the sides there were very complex.  Anarchists and SRs were more common in the Red forces than in the west and many socialists fought for the Whites too.

Now everything is right!

Simple flags with slogans are characteristic of 1917 and 1918, when most of the Bolshevik military formations consisted of the Red Guard (militia from factory workers). With the beginning of the formation of regular parts (1918), much more interesting banners appeared. Their manufacture was often ordered by professional artists and gold-sewing workshops.

I agree that in Siberia the mixture was very motley. KOMUCH's army fought against the Bolsheviks under the red flags. And as part of the Red Army, there were many anarchist units that had black stars on their caps ... Like on many military airplanes.

I've painted up all the Red Standard bearers I have for now, but I will have to have a go at some more adventurous Red Flags later.  ;)

These are my Siberians.  I have painted all I have for now.  They need some Cossacks and more support though.

14th 'Irtysh' Siberian Rifle Regiment

15th 'Kurgan' Siberian Rifle Regiment

Some support weapons.

Here's one of the full 'division' so far. lol  Maybe in 1918.  They'll have to fill out their ranks with conscripts and ex-Reds for 1919.  They need Cossacks, a Steamer and a Train as well.  Some Czechs as allies too maybe.

Thanks all.

TT I have seen the Tsuba Cossacks.  They are wonderful sculpts.  They are Caucasians though, sadly.  So not right for Steppe Cossacks.  Also I think the Tsuba figures are a bit small compared to the Copplestone figures.  They might well be great for other projects though. ;)

Tsuba makes the Cossacks of the imperial guard, judging by the fact that they include a trumpeter. Ordinary Cossack units did not have trumpeters.

Righto Copplestone do a nice range of Cossacky types also of course.
I thought they (Copplestone) would be too big for my existing WW2 stuff so I went with Outpost even though they are too early a period. Then I saw Tsuba.....

Hi TT,

Crusader do WW2 Cossacks in German Service.

http://www.crusaderminiatures.com/list.php?cat=9&sub=24&page=2

These are some neat conversions using Copplestone Bolshevik Cavalry for Soviets
https://krigetkommer.weebly.com/red-cavalry/red-cavalry-part-2-converting-a-red-army-cavalry-section

Or using a mix of plastics
http://accidentalpainter.blogspot.com/2015/09/soviet-ww2-cavalry.html

Or Partisans using the Copplestone figures as is
http://evilbobs.blogspot.com/2014/06/28mm-wwii-soviet-partisan-cavalry.html

PS Managed to fix all the images.

Can I ask what sized bases did you use for the artillery?

Hi Shipka,

The round bases for the field guns are 75mm across.  The MGs are 60mm.  The heavy gun base was cut by me and is about 100mm by 60mm.  I think I'd make it a bit bigger if I was doing it again.
