Command Bases
« on: March 22, 2020, 01:39:27 PM »
Hi,

What size circular bases should I be looking at for a command base with 4 figures on it with one of the figs mounted. I am thinking circular 60mm.
Thoughts please. Its not for any game just so my Roman mounted Consular.

Thanks

Sounds about right. Doesn’t really matter if you aren’t basing to a particular rule system though most rules are fairly easy going on command base sizes.

Assuming that we are talking about 28mm figures, a 60mm circular base should be fine.

Seems fine - you could even go a little bigger as they might be a little squished.

My idea was to go for whatever size I want and if I'm playing a certain rule system then I was going to place a circular hoop of some with correct prescribed diameter over the top to indicate the projected size of the base.

I can't think of any rules systems (or players!) that would require you to do that!

Swordpoint. A very good system for Medieval warfare as it has quite protracted combats. I asked about it on the Swordpoint Players Facebook Group and that's pretty much what I was told.

All I was really saying is that I usually go for the size I feel is right with the idea of placing a hoop if playing in a campaign day/weekend. It was supposed to be helpful Charlie!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I have ordered 80mm for the command base. Big enough to take The Roman Consul and his shield bearer and perhaps a Triarii as well.

I have different sized bases for different commanders, one for cavalry, one for infantry and overall commander.

40- 50mm round for OC wing or OC division commanders, CO general and if a king or emperor normally 60 or 80mm round.

Cheers
