I used to love these books, I always pictured medieval europe instead of anything unusual
I will need to dig them out again sometime

I never realized they were post apocalyptic either from the first two.  I often find books I loved as a kid were a bit less impressive reread 30 years later.  I am not sure that is the author's fault entirely - I could be a bit more tired and jaded too.

For this type of project, you want to think in terms of long-term decay.   Only the strongest materials would survive, and even those would be heavily overgrown.   Almost fully reclaimed by nature.   Steel and iron would be heavily rusted, no shiny bits at all.    Lots of plants growing over everything, so get out the green flock, paint some streaks on those buildings and create a million creeper vines going up and down the surfaces.

For some strong visuals,   try a couple of my favorites for long-term-decay:

The Lost Future

Logan's Run (2nd half of the movie)

Enjoy.

With so much on my to do list and my wife not being a fan of this project idea, I doubt I will being getting to this any time soon... if ever. But thanks for the continuing input! Second half of Logan‘s Run is a good suggestion, I need to show that movie to my wife anyway.

Even though you may never get around to this, you have re awoken an old interest of mine.
I loved the series as a teen and eventually managed to get hold of the remaining few books that I did not have in my twenties.

I fully realise that there are a lot of 'sensitive' subjects in them but the world vision was wonderful.
I am intending to re-read them all in chronological order soon and that may well push me over the edge into doing something...who knows.
 :)

You mention two GURPS books...I have the 'Horseclans' book, what is the other?

I am currently rereading them. Some bits are still great, some are quite awkward... with entirely too many flashbacks and rehashing of old material. I am surprised at how much I am either noticing for the first time or that I must have forgotten.

The second GURPS book was a scenario book...

I am looking forward to doing so myself, it has been a long time.

Thanks for the tip-off on the second book, I shall try and get a copy.
