Spartan shields project

I've been making home made decals for hoplites on my home printer. Here is the process. It is a good project for shut-ins with graphic programs:

Thank you- the goal here is to point out the means are in your hands if you have a computer and a graphics program. I'm not trying to undercut or diminish the great products that are out there now for gamers. I just want to show that if you wish to have specific designs and you don't want to paint them there is an alternative.

Jeff, great work! About painting dots, a Korean coloured pencil artist observed that some sort of tool for decorating finger nails works well for applying dots, in her case to drawn flowers. Update: look for "nail dotting tool" or "embossing stylus".

Yes those tools do look better than my toothpick dots!

Seems like I need to get some of these and update my dots, since seeing the Royal shield dots close up in pictures makes me squirm.

More than 15 years ago, i was very into the modding community of the Total War games. We had a mod called Hegemonia for the original Rome Total War. It was focused on greece from the persian wars to the peloponnesian war and we had mapped almost every city state. That meant that we had to make shield devices for all the poleis and their units. We made an extensive research of sources, archaeological  finds and mostly ancient coins and produced a very big catalogue. Some times i see samples of that floating around pinterest and it always bring a smile. I thought many times to make these available as decals.

This sounds both very interesting and a project that quite a few might be interested in  ;)
