Is there any use for tunnels?
« on: July 27, 2009, 03:46:48 PM »
Gents,
I try to evaluate whether my efforts are worth to be commercially cast. What I´m doing are London Tube tunnels for "Neverwhere", "Underworld", "Matrix", "Creep", "Aliens vs. Predator" and "28 days later" games (plus whatever yo can imagine). I try to catch and copy architect Leslie Green´s style and will probably make one of his typical surface buildings too. All will be cast in plaster if I manage to get molds made.
There will be platform sections as well, but only passage tunnels so far. I made them for 28mm, but they may work for 20mm too.
The first picture shows the complete set of masters for straight tunnels and T-intersections (both walkway and sewer):

This picture shows a complete T-intersection (tubular shape) with huge 28mm and 40mm monster figure for size comparison (yeah, you could run 20mm tanks through it! ):

The same as sewer:

Sewer section with vertical wall:

Walkway tunnel with vertical wall:

Staircase in progress. I will make only one with vertical walls, because it´s huge and will need three moulds:

Now the question is:
Would you buy such and at which price? Price per piece/per section (one 10cm long section consists of 4 parts including ceiling - should the ceiling be sold separately?)

Interesting idea. I Wouldn’t buy any right now because I’m broke  >:( but I think it could sell. Shouldn’t all the sections (pieces) be available separately so people could customize their tunnel according to their needs?
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

To customer´s service...certainly yes!

VERY cool idea.  Seems like it would require a butload of resin to make enough parts for a "table" though.  My guess is it would be prohibitively expensive.

We have quite a few of the Ainsty sewer sections - now produced by Old Crow - but these look very impreesive, although I think the ceiling sections should be optional.

Well done, I really like how the straight and curved pieces match.

I'd definitely make the ceiling an optional piece, as it is completely useless for playing. Would be _very_ cool for dioramas though - especially if lit from some side tunnel.

I would LOVE some.

I wouldn't want the top sections though.

They'd look great for warhammer quest...

Unfortunately, I am broke though.  :(

To clarify: The four pieces that will make one complete section will be cast separately, chosen by the customer and glued together by him. Who needs no ceiling does not order. I´d advice to paint them before assembly...

If it’s too much of an hassle to sell cast pieces, maybe there’s a way for you to sell the masters to a company already established in miniatures buildings and/or scenic?  ???

Very nice. I could see where the ceilings could be of use in limiting the available area players are allowed to see.

That was my idea.

Sounds good.

But you could argue that hiding the visable tunnels could be done by keeping them off board.
Though your way looks prettier.  :)

Have you considered selling molds? I'd certainly like some, but shipping plaster casts in a sufficient amount to make a sewer would be damned expensive.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Greetings
Have you considered selling molds?
Now THAT I would buy immediately. Straight parts, curved ones, optional ceilings, pipes whole and/or broken ones. Sewers with or without "water" puddles. That kind of thing.

Happy brushlicking

Those are great, and I'd add them to my wishlist if available, either as parts or as molds!

Especially as molds, though, as others have said.
