WHAT ARE YOU UP TO IN LOCKDOWN?
« on: April 11, 2020, 10:11:53 AM »
Next Friday Wargames Illustrated launches the first edition of WI Bite-size, our lockdown-busting weekly PDF magazine - free to all Wargames Illustrated subscribers.

As part of WI Bite-size we would like to include a few quick-fire tips, recommendations and observations from wargamers like yourself about what you are getting up to during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Here’s a few examples of what we would like to include -

1) Online campaigns and wargames you are playing (virtually) with friends.

2) Recommendations for books you are reading or movies you are watching.

3) Terrain you are building.

4) Buildings you are putting together; scratch-built or flatpack.

5) Forces you are building.

6) Figures you are painting.

7) Have you recruited any of your family/household as lockdown wargaming partners!?

8) Is your wargames club/group getting up to any virtual/online activity (I know one club who are having a military quiz night!)

9) Anything else you think other wargamers might be interested in hearing about.

10)... Can't think of a tenth, but you can't have nine things in a list.

Naturally we’re looking for ‘posts’ that are interesting/worth hearing about. e.g. why are you putting together that particular force? What’s so good about that set of paints you are using or movie you are watching? How would that PC game you are playing appeal to other wargamers? How are you managing (or struggling!) to play a virtual wargame?

Ideally each post will be between 50 - 500 words long. Any accompanying photo/s would be appreciated.

If we feature your post you will receive a FREE COPY of WI Bite-size, and if you will be receiving Bite-size anyway (i.e. you are already a subscriber) you will receive a free Giants in Miniature figure of your choice.

Post here or Email us at wi@wargamesillustrated.net. Please 'subject title' your email 'Lockdown post’

We look forward to hearing form you!

Not really sure how it's going to work yet but myself and two other LAFers (Doug em4 and Vagabond) are planning a small online game set in Elizabethan times. I am hosting and umpiring the game and the other two are taking a side each. We will use Whatsapp, e-mail and maybe video. It's not quite ready to start because I am awaiting one vital figure to arrive in the post (which is understandably slow at the moment). Keep up the good work, posties! Will post here when it starts.

In the meantime, here is the preamble.

Who needs PornHub (whatever that may be!) when you’ve got Mad Lord Snapcase?

Down to painting my last seven figures and then all my backlog is done.
Plus playing some solo games.

I can't conceive of saying that unless it's following a really big sale.   lol

During the lockdown I've been working on wagons and caissons for my 28mm Napoleonic French. I purchased some Warbases kits at the Partizan wargaming show during my trip to the UK last year

When I got back home to New Zealand I placed them in a drawer and promptly forgot abut them. But then along came the Covid-19 lockdown, and having almost reached the bottom of my lead mountain for projects to occupy myself with, I suddenly remembered these little wooden kits.

They were an absolute pleasure to build and paint. I based them so that I could either use the whole caisson/wagon, or remove the front wheel assembly to act as a limber.

I even found some old Hinchliffe draft horses lurking in the bottom of my spares box, who were quickly drafted (haha) to haul the caissons!

This Warbases wagons look very nice.
I like the way that you have based them so that they can be mobile or stationary. :-*

I have always fancied trying AK 47 after seeing various games on the web so that is what I have been doing during the lockdown, this thread.

Still to finish it

Lots of work.

Managed a few virtual games - which have worked fairly well.

And a bit of painting.
