More Images from the Slums of Niznhy
« on: July 28, 2009, 05:08:13 AM »
The streets in this part of the city are littered with trash. Rats the size of small dogs brazenly plunder the refuse. This is the foreign quarter. This is where foreign travelers and workers are forced to live. Only the richest of foreign merchants can pay the bribes necessary to stay in the better parts of the city.

Even the vaunted Ibyssian Lion Guard are forced to find lodging here. And as is often the case, fights between those who live outside authority and those who represent it, occur without warning.

I've done a little more work to the city and added some details to make it less "clean" and more like a slum.

Looks like it came right out of a Conan story. Great looking terrain. I'm getting ichy here (could be all the bugs from the slums...) to get myself to working on some terrain.

Oh well, shouldn't have started Lord of the Rings online, I guess.

Damn you for the Evil man that you are! I love it, now I have to make one.

Don´t get me wrong, that´s an impressive city. I like it very much. Though:

I´d make the walls really dirty. The plastering looks way too clean for a slum, I feel. I´d go for a brownish was and black soot. Plus I´d add some "stuff" leaning to these walls. Pulp wood, empty crates, spoil heaps and the like - simply the litter you mentioned that would be there. The part of the city you showed looks far too neat and clean. You could add a ruined house or some sheds and tents as well.

Once you start adding "props" and figures, your gameboard is starting to come alive. Thanks for sharing!!

They look great!  Well painted figures, well done terrain.  As someone said earlier in the thread, it looks like something straight out of a Conan adventure.

I especially like the narrow streets - claustrophobic alleyways!

Is that on a 2 ft. x 2 ft. board? I remember that being a theme in your games. I think it's great!

After a couple of weeks I can at least say that the terrain there (including buildings/ruins) is a great inspiration for building things like that. I always try to draw something from my varios activities for other hobbies. Okay, now how do I manage to make the day last 48 hours???
