Headband Magnifyer with daylight lamp

What make and model do you use to help you paint? (for those of us need extra magnification when painting)

Please can you provide your recommendations?

Is that the one Front Rank use to sell and the same one that the Perry Twins swear by? Does it have a led lamp built-in?

I've got a Rolson one (which also has a small LED light), which has provided useful service, it's also considerably cheaper than the Donegan version.

I use a Carson Pro Magnivisor Deluxe it has the little lamp and comes with a range of lenses and a box to keep them in.  It works very well.

One thing to remember is that the lamp isn't 'daylight' but it is the bulb. Daylight as a category covers a wide range of bulbs and not all of them are good for painting. You need a bulb that is in the 5500-6500K range.

It is not just the colour temperature, it is the breadth of the spectrum and how the peaks of the spectrum interact with the paint pigments.

None of which is on the packaging for the bulb :-)

I have a Donegan Optivisor...

Me too.  And yes, they certainly used to be sold by Front Rank.

Never seen one with a built-in light.  Personally if you could buy one I wouldn't.  I need the light fixed and above the figure I'm painting, not beaming out from my headgear.  Not sure it would work for me.   ::)

What Orctrader said. A good quality Optivisor and a steady light source are paramount.  8)

Just last Thursday I got my LED headband magnifier. Can't find a brand on the box but the model number is MG81007-A. Two lenses stacked but one can be flipped inwards. I need to do this otherwise the focus is too close to he lens and it becomes impossible to manouvre a brush. Another tiny round lens can be swivelled in front of just the right eye for extra magnification. It has two LEDs that can also be moved left/right and up/down to aim at the work. Unfortunately, they're a very obnoxiously blueish white so I need to mix my colours while aiming the light elsewhere. Still for a mere 16USD, I'm quite happy with it (just two days experience, mind).

Thank you all for replying. I have also asked a friend who paints GW mainly too Golden Demon standard and I know he uses a magnifying headband. The info on "daylight" bulbs is interesting, thank you for that.  I'll peruse on amazon tomorrow based upon all the feedback.   :)
