Search for 28mm WW1 Mesopotamia Cavalry figures
« on: April 22, 2020, 05:13:25 PM »
Hi,

A plea for advice, tips.

Some of you may have seen my Mesopotamia collection and the games we do each year down at Yarkshire Gamer.

I am trying to increase the numbers of Cavalry for our games but I am struggling to come up with figures. So far for the British I am using Great War Miniatures with a Woodbine Design Company head swap and for the Turkish the East Ablaze range from Minifigs. But have no source for Indian Cavalry.

I am aware of the Brigade Games Range but there are no UK distributors of those figures.

My question is are there any ranges from outside WW1 which from a distance would work, late colonial ? 2nd Afgan ? Early WW2 ? I am happy to hold my hands up and say I am not familiar enough with the uniforms to decide myself.

Although I am alright painting, my modelling skills are very limited so would prefer something one can ju

Any suggestions welcome.

Regards Ken

So I have no idea if these work historically or not (2nd Afghan War) but they are Sikh Cavalry and are wearing puttees (which for me is usually good enough)  lol

Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

I have seen these and was hoping someone more familiar with the period uniform could advise if they fit.

The Artizan are lovely figures but the uniforms are not accurate for Mesopotamia WW1.

Perry Miniatures do some Early WW2 mounted Yeomanry for the Desert War.
They’re lightly equipped, so hopefully nothing too out of period.

Edit: just reread your post, and saw you were specifically after Indians - sorry.

They do do some Sudan Indian lancers though.

Just a thought but it might be worth contacting Empress Miniatures.

Their early War WW1 range which includes cavalry, may be extended to cover Indian cavalry for actions such as the charge at High Wood in 1916.

I notice they do Indian foot in their Jazz Age range which look like they would work for WW1 so they might be considering mounted versions of these.

Otherwise it doesn’t look like there is much alternative to Brigade Games. I notice if you want 24 figures (8 packs) or more their shipping cost is a standard $15. So it is just the randomness of customs charges to contend with!  lol

Not seen the Tin Soldier stuff before, many thanks for that, so might need to order some samples to see how they size up with other stuff.

General update, I have some samples from Irregular which I will post up soon. I am also exploring 3d printing some ammo bandoliers to put on late colonial figures via a friend with the necessary skills.
