« on: May 06, 2020, 08:31:00 AM »
Hi,

I am in the middle of painting a small force of Macedonians and am looking for a storage soluton for the those carrying the Sarissa. The models are Victrix.
Thanks

If you are multi basing then any storage box with enough height and length will provide you protection. I assume the bases will support their own freestanding weight.

If you are talking about single basing then I doubt that there are any bespoke foam trays specifically to cater for single pikemen but others might know better. I would suggest a foam lined box with the models laid flat, adding 'layers' of pikemen on each successive level. Alternatively good quality bubble wrap might work.

Hi,

The minis are singular round based, approx about 30 only though may be more as I am enjoying painting the Victrix figures using Contrast paints with Vallejo highlights. I will post my progress up shorlty.

Thanks

Nice painting.

As you are basing them individually, then storing them vertically will prove a challenge, even in sabot bases. Also you will need a deep box, which are more expensive.  I'd still suggest storing them horizontally, with some layering, bubble wrap or kapok to protect them.

I second the Really Useful Boxes as a storage medium.  I've found them really cheaply on Ebay with free postage.

Really useful boxes are awesome.  Glue a sheet of metal to the bottom of it and stick small magnets on the bottom of your bases (or vice-versa) and you will be fine.

If it's what I'm thinking of they are the best out there as they are extremely sturdy and have a very flat bottom and a good solid 'lockable' lid.

I take a long flat box, put foam at the bottom and lay them on it.  Then, I put a layer of foam above.

Works well as they have moved twice and i have not lost a sarissa yet!

Yep, same here. All my armies are stored in these boxes. They are tough as old boots and like you say, if you put magnetic tape in the bottom they are brilliant at keeping the miniatures safe as the reinforced bottom prevents the plastic from moving and dislodging any magna based mini's.

Would you consider magnetising the bases? That'd stop them moving.

You can get sticky backed steel round bottoms. I use LITKO products myself.
The steel bases will not lose their juice and they will stick to a magnet sheet sabot tray or box.
Plastic spears and pikes are beautifully sculpted but they break very easily. Vertical storage on magnets with a foam insert cut to fit between each rank will help keep them upright. Sadly I have plastic pikes simply break while painting so that's why I have not as yet shown any of mine.

A tall metal toolbox can work. The lid area is usually tall enough for pikes. Again if everything is magnetized and stuck down well- you can avert disasters. I used a Lowes metal box, but they are heavy and not recommended for long hauls, but surprisingly I could get a whole WAB style army in one back in the day.
