Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.ENAMELS: I don't paint in anything else. Swapped back about fifteen years ago. Advantages1. They cover better and have better depth of colour (IMHO).2. They don't dry as quickly as acrylics, so you can mix more on a palette, adding thinners as you work, maintaining consistency of colour mix and aiding speed painting.3. They are hard wearing and do not require varnish.4. They are readily available on line AND from high street shops.5. In emergency, you can drink the thinners.Disadvantages1. Smell. (I have a work / hobby room so this isn't a problem here, but it can be a problem for many wives).2. Brush wear. Thinners wrecks brushes. (Because I paint for a living I go through brushes very quickly anyway - simply painting as many figures as I do wrecks them almost as quickly. I generally go through 2 to 5 brushes a week).3. Drying out and 'going off'. Opened 'pots' of acrylic keep much better over time. (Because of 2. above, I go through my enamels too quickly for opened tins to dry out or 'go off' that often, but it does still happen from time to time).4. Price. Acrylics are generally a little cheaper by volume.5. Colour range. Acrylics come in every colour under the sun, enamels don't so you have to be a confident mixer to use enamels to their best effect.6. Drinking thinners make you go blind.
