Another great unit.  Noticed you painted them in enamels rather than acrylics.  Care to share the advantages?

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.

ENAMELS: I don't paint in anything else. Swapped back about fifteen years ago.

Advantages

1. They cover better and have better depth of colour (IMHO).
2. They don't dry as quickly as acrylics, so you can mix more on a palette, adding thinners as you work, maintaining consistency of colour mix and aiding speed painting.
3. They are hard wearing and do not require varnish.
4. They are readily available on line AND from high street shops.
5. In emergency, you can drink the thinners.

Disadvantages

1. Smell. (I have a work / hobby room so this isn't a problem here, but it can be a problem for many wives).
2. Brush wear. Thinners wrecks brushes. (Because I paint for a living I go through brushes very quickly anyway - simply painting as many figures as I do wrecks them almost as quickly. I generally go through 2 to 5 brushes a week).
3. Drying out and 'going off'. Opened 'pots' of acrylic keep much better over time. (Because of 2. above, I go through my enamels too quickly for opened tins to dry out or 'go off' that often, but it does still happen from time to time).
4. Price. Acrylics are generally a little cheaper by volume.
5. Colour range. Acrylics come in every colour under the sun, enamels don't so you have to be a confident mixer to use enamels to their best effect.
6. Drinking thinners make you go blind.

They look great!

... then again, your figures always look great   :D
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Largely agreed on the advantages/disadvantages, though I've never left any figures unvarnished, as I do find that the paint wears off when handled (though not as badly as unvarnished acrylics - a friend would often provide me with figures that he'd half-finished in acrylics and I invariably had to strip them and re-paint them as they were so badly worn after only a little bit of handing and being knocked around).

A big advantage for enamels from my own point of view is that I can get the full range in at least five shops within a 30-minute drive of my house.  There isn't a Vallejo within two-hours' drive.

And they have a cheeky, smoky nose, full-bodied on the palate and a long, some say terminal, finish.  Ideal with cold chips scavenged from a bin.  Best enjoyed with friends under a motorway flyover.

Thanks for the quick answer.  Despite your figures looking amazing, I'm not that into mixing colour palettes so I shall stick with acrylics.

Superb painting  :-*

I am of the age when Humbrol enamels was really all there was for modelling and painting figures.

What made me switch to acrylic was with enamels you had to lever off the lid with something like a screw driver and then you had to mix it to get the right consistency before you could start to apply. I just found this slowed me down. With acrylics, you flip the lip and the consistency is perfect most of the time?
