North Star Egyptian Chariots
« on: May 27, 2020, 01:12:22 PM »
Hello gents

This morning I picked up at the Post Office a package with some chariots from North Star Kadesh range. I want to build two forces, one Egyptian, one Hittite/Syrian/Jewish for Warhammer Ancient Battles. The cast is very nice, good sculpts and the mould lines I believe will be easily filled. The chariots are done by 4Ground, in MDF and greyboard. They look easy to mount.

I plan to paint the chariot and then the crew and horses. My only doubt is how to simulate the reins. Has anyone tried it? What did you use?

I intent to show the progress here, in this thread. That way I will force myself to move forward with the project, instead leaving it to go to the Land of Unpainted Lead, where the unfinished projects go to die.

1) File a groove in the horses mouth.
2) Fix a length of thread (at its midpoint) into the groove with a spot of super-glue.
3) When dry, do similar with the 'driver's' hands.

I use metal foil from wine bottles, cut into thin strips & lightly sanded to take paint.

Plus one on the metal foil from wine bottles.....some soft drinks cans are now made from such thin metal I am experimenting with strips of that too

Look forward to seeing your results

You could try the wire roll at Greenstuffworld and wrap thread around it with PVA and superglue at both ends.

It ought to be malleable enough to position to your satisfaction when it dries(?)

Reins made with copy paper with super glue soaked into them.  No idea how they will survive the rigours of battle but you can ask me in ten years.  :P

Those are very good tips. I must check with the models in hand which is more feasible. Will keep you posted.

15mm using dental floss (unwaxed works best for taking paint and super glue), I paint it by sliding the floss through a napkin with some brown paint.  add after the rest of the model is finished.

Thanks for the tips on the reins, guys. I am thinking to use welding wire or tin foil. My only problem is that with the quarantine still in force I can't go to a hardware store to buy it.  :'(
