Having admired the web images of the 57 figures making up the Tercio I bit the bullet and ordered the full pack, plus casualties direct from the 1898 website (you can order in the UK from Empress, but I'm not sure if they can provide the exclusive Field Marshall figure).

I now have to paint my way through 57 unique figures.

The two command packs and Field Marshall as an example of the quality of these figures

and a size comparison - a little smaller than the Galloping Major FIW figures, and a little larger than the Empress Vietnam USMC.

more to follow, and happy to answer any questions on the range people might have.

and a few figures primed in black and white to see what is my preference for the rest.

and in terms of painting these figures the black primer is definitely the way to go in my opinion.

Yes Empress Miniatures have the full range available. ;)

Also for size reference you have used a Vietnam figure which is a different size to our ECW range and this picture gives a better comparison. ;)

and the first two figures painted, both musketeers

These are great fun to paint and its amazing how much detail can be crammed into 35mm or so

Really excellent work, on what looks to be just a delightful set of minis.  I've got to find a justification to purchase them.

Very nice paint jobs - and refutes the so often made claim that black undercoat prevents a vibrant paint job.  Although, with aging eyes, I admit to converting to red-brown primer as my undercoat for most things.  I still like the forgiveness of black for us average or so painters.

Agreed. Black undercoat doesn't interfere with a vibrant paint job. How you apply a base coat and how you prime and undercoat does :)

Thanks for the clarification Paul, and that's a much more useful comparison photo than mine. I really must pick up some of your ECW figures when I next place an order.

Lovely painting of some great figures - although the date in the title did rather confuse me at first, as I'm going surely that's too late for a Tercio!

and a size comparison - a little smaller than the Galloping Major FIW figures, and a little larger than the Empress Vietnam USMC.

As they say if you don't use them in the same unit you will be OK ;)

Fred 1898 Miniatures is the brand of figures just to clarify.  ;)
