Looking for VTOL or Dropship
« on: May 07, 2020, 06:53:33 AM »
I am looking for a VTOL aircraft or drop shuttle for 28mm and 15mm. I am in Australia and the ones I am seeing online would warrant colossal postage charges. Unsure if I want a General Aviation, Cassette Futurism or military look.

It so far seems my best bet is papercraft or 3d printing. I can't buy a printer currently, and them 3d models ain't cheap.

Please refrain from suggesting toys unless they are known to be currently in stock in common Australian stores at a reasonable price.

You could consider on of the Mantic Games Warpath Flyers?

Or

Both can be found at some Australian Retailers (like Mighty Ape)

Papercraft is indeed a very economical option that yields good results if you are willing to put in some effort. Of course only of use to you as soon as you can buy a printer but there is a papercraft version of this dropship around that can be found here:

How about this?  https://miniaturescenery.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=114  It's not cheap, but is an Aus-based company.

Also, see this thread http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=124162.msg1566043#msg1566043 for toy suggestions that might work.  (I've got myself a pair of the Avengers Quinjets off the back of it.)

For A quick fix, I go for a toy Quinn Jet, its amazing what you can still find in the Toy isle of Kmart and Target in Oz, if you just wont  something quick for gaming, if you have time for painting you can really spice up a straight out of a box Quinn Jet.

I picked up a Shuttle Alpha from a 3d print company for fifty pounds.  Only five pounds more than a GW Valkyrie.
I am sure that someone on your hemisphere is either printing them for sale or would print one from STL files.  It can be printed in both 15mm and 28mm.
If there is not a online printer that carries them you can order the STL and have them printed with a local printer.

They scale well for 28mm and are modular.

There is a possible toy conversion contender for you on my Judge Dredd thread, using a thunderbird ship.

Prices are in US, so I believe otherwise. The printing service you linked to charges sixty bucks for a Grasshopper, and they just go up from there. Plus postage.

Not cheap, in this case, meaning "Nightmarishly Expensive".
And I'm having enough trouble finding those Quinjets online.

I meant that I can't buy a 3d printer; I am well off for papercraft. Just looking for something sturdier.

So, how much is that? GW Valkyries cost 110AUD.
Considering the Alpha Shuttle files are 19-25USD, depending on where you buy them from, that could well end up so expensive as to defeat the purpose, considering the prices for simpler, smaller models at Tabletop Terrain.

“Prices are in US, so I believe otherwise. The printing service you linked to charges sixty bucks for a Grasshopper, and they just go up from there. Plus postage.‘
I deliberately quoted you what i consider an inexpensive item that might fit your needs. The price quoted by Tabletop Terrain for the ‘Grasshopper’  is £31.54 which I pesonally don’t believe is overly expensive for a larger than average model. You can find them cheaper in the UK but postage will increase the cost.  I have ordered from tabletop terrain in the past and if I remember correctly they are company based in Australia.
Have a look at Puppets War’s ‘Dragonfly’ - reduced by 10% to below 33 euros - measures about 12’ x 8”. Postage will add a bit but will come out cheaper than a lot of others that are available. https://puppetswar.eu/dragonfly-mkii-transporter.html

Checked store on Monday. Closest toy was a large Buzz Lightyear toy for almost 90 AUD... on clearance. Nothing else.

I went with the Grasshopper for 28mm.
Does anyone know of a Midnight Sky Games?
Some interesting ships but appears to only be partially there. Certainly there are no prices nor any connections to community.
Is this an abandoned project or a shady dealer?

There's an Avenger's Quinjet on sale for $10, plus $32 for shipping to Australia (that's US Dollars).

It has a 15" wingspan, looks great, and can be used for 15mm - 32mm figures, so you get multi-scale gaming from the same model, making it even more useful.  I'd say it can easily carry a squad or two of the larger figs, and a full platoon of the 15mm ones.

I bought a number of them to be used as Dropships, and/or to add in as shuttles/transports for my planned Spaceport.
