New Second World War naval miniature designer: Thousand Worlds
« on: January 28, 2024, 11:05:18 AM »
Thanks to a post on the Wargamers’ Forum, I have stumbled across a new designer and manufacturer of naval miniatures that I have not seen mentioned here (perhaps because there isn’t a naval board).

Thousand Worlds (https://www.thousandworlds.co.uk/store) is based in the UK and offers a wide range of 3D-printed First World War, Second World War and Cold War (i.e. modern) naval miniatures in a variety of scales including 1/1800, 1/2400, 1/3000, 1/4800 and 1/6000. The range is already fairly extensive, encompassing all the major navies in both world wars and including some harder-to-find ship classes.

I have not yet seen any of the miniatures or placed an order. But from the pictures on the site, the design and accuracy of the miniatures looks excellent, capturing the appearance of the ships accurately. The pictures in the gallery (https://www.thousandworlds.co.uk/model-gallery) probably provide the clearest view of what the models are actually like, though the scale is not always stated. I am a little sceptical that the same design can be printed in everything from 1/1800 to 1/6000, and I am also very doubtful about printing ships’s masts in smaller scales, but I will find out by placing an order.

Don’t be put off by the (ghastly) Warlord Games-style plinth bases in some of the pictures: bases are optional.

I have no connection to the company. I just like miniature ship models and thought a new designer deserved promoting here.

PS Some of the links on the site don’t work, so try different routes through the site.

Those are nice clean looking models.  Given the concern over Navwar's future more suppliers of ships is a good thing.
I hope you will review them when you get your samples.
