This film is on Talking Pictures TV in the UK right now as I'm typing this. I switched the TV on and saw Lauren Bacall sitting in an old fashioned railway carriage and thought "hang on a  minute, I know what this is..."

My Perry miniatures have arrived, this completes the miniatures part of the project.
I must say, the casting on these is frightful. I'm finding extra flash at every stage, even after I went through everything and thought I'd caught it all.

I haven't even looked at the cavalry.

Base coating has commenced.

I've decided to buy (re-buy, they were my first ever historical miniatures) the Foundry Afghans.

Paul, what's the base colour? Spray or brush?
Cheers,

I feel your pain regardig flash ( and mould lines) no matter how good a job I think I've done with my files and craft knife I always, without fail, find some more when I'm in the middle of painting a miniature usual in some hard to reach spot between an arm and a weapon or between the legs   >:(

Maybe it's just my bad eyesight, but I have come to accept that undercoating is initially a stage that has the purpose of pointing out all the mould lines I have missed during the clean-up stage. I always seem to be able to see them better once there is paint on the figure. After they are dealt with then I get to the "second" undercoat.  :)

I have had some Foundry figures in the past that had some pretty bad mould lines (double ones too, which common wisdom always assigns to re-casters, but these were bought direct from Foundry). Though for flash and the like I'm with you on the Perrys, Paul, I always seem to find Perry figures to be the worst culprits.

A must I think due to the 'flash' (mostly mould channels) with many of the Perry ranges; due to the sheer volume of casting they do- it's hard to replace moulds at that rate.

I've always found that the extra metal that needs removing from the Foundry miniatures is easier to remove due to Foundry using a softer metal. There's a lot of Pewter in the Perry Castings compared to that of Foundry.

Looking great, Matakishi!  I will be following this with interest.

Slightly off topic, I'm reminded of an Afghan joke;

A Pakistani man was talking with an Afghan.  He said, "you Afghans are crazy - you have a Ministry of Railways even though you have no Railways!".  The Afghan replied, "Your country has a Ministry of Justice!"

The sad reality of that joke is that it is an example of “pot calling the kettle black”.

Ok, with that derail of the way, I’ll also be following this thread.
"This I have known ever since I stretched out my fingers to the abomination within that great gilded frame; stretched out my fingers and touched a cold and unyielding surface of polished glass."

H. P. Lovecraft, "The Outsider"

 Yep :-*

I really love the Second Afghan War Perry range; especially the Afghans. There's a real sense of purpose in the firing poses and the charging mini's are some of the best I have ever seen as regards to posture etc  8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
