...and so it begins!   :o

Looking well-good, I like the set-up.

If you are in communication with Sir Rufus, could you beg a favour of him? I am still concerned about the disappearance of Dr. Rupert Startling-Grope of Railway Cuttings, East Cheam. If Sir Rufus comes across (ooh err, missus!) any nefarious wrong-doers, could he bear in mind that any information gleaned on the subject of Startling-Grope would be much appreciated in this quarter.

You shall be the first to know if any information relating to the learned Startling-Grope should come to light as a result of Sir Rufus’ ongoing activities. Rest assured that anyone that crosses his path during this investigation will be subjected to rigorous interrogation using skills learned in his time as a Colonial Police officer.

Here we see the minor Plot Points. They are all people and will move in a random direction 6” at the end of each turn.

Rear, right: Tilbury Pigeon;
Rear, left: Ephraim Hardstanding;
Front, right: Mysterious Stranger;
Front, left: Stupefaction Queeg (local farmer)

Until a character attempts to take them I don’t know which is which - they are just counters. When a character gets in to base contact, I will dice to see which PP person it is.

Turn 1 and both sides move cautiously on from opposite ends.

Sir Rufus and his group leave their vehicles and move in a disorderly bunch up the footpath.

In the distance, the cultists arrive looking full of intent.

Wrench eads the Squire's group, followed by Esmerelda the Afghan.

A great looking start to the game, the cultists are looking very smart in their purple robes, but will they be able to stand up to the Afghan's?

No sign of the Throppet's yet, the suspense grows.

No sign of the Throppet's yet, the suspense grows.

...and then, when you do see them, it's usually too late!   :o

Although we must always treat the words of the proven charlatan Rasputin Wilson with a great deal of care, when asked by a deluded lady admirer what a Throppet looked like he replied
"Madam; imagine if you will, a sabre-toothed alpaca, the size of a small sheep and capable of cheetah-like speeds, then you will have a creature that is nothing like a Throppet yet more like it than anything else."
He was a bit of an annoying smart-arse.

Anyway; following Turn 1, that old rascal Turn 2 appears:

Sir Rufus' group elect to take the initiative and all of them plan to run. However, Wrench picks Held in Place and cannot move.

Sinbad, being an Afghan hound is not about to stand still just because he is on a lead held by Wrench. With an explosive burst of energy, he breaks free and races after the rest of the group.
.
The group is strung out along the footpath leading to the circle. Sir Rufus' group completely forget to attempt any of the nearby Plot Points <in other words, I wasn’t concentrating because I was trying to make sure I got the rules right>.

The cultists are more focused. They also run; the Summus Bellator Adiutor heads for the Plot Point on the cultist's left whilst Martin Bellator and Steve Bellator head for the one on the right <here I made a mistake due to not having played the rules for a while. I allowed the cultists to attempt both Plot Points even though they had run. They shouldn’t have made an action after running>. The Adiutor reaches his objective and his Plot Point is revealed to be Ephraim Hardstanding, the veteran Morris Dancer.

The random peril is passed as is the Plot Point Challenge and the Adiutor takes possession of Ephraim who obviously considered it unwise to resist a man armed with a sub machine gun.

Meanwhile, Steve reaches the other Plot Point which is revealed as Tilbury Pigeon, the Morris side's leader. Steve fails his random peril and is Down, a victim to an enraged Tilbury's bladder-on-a-stick.

Martin takes his place, passes the peril.......

........but fails the Plot Point challenge.Unlike standard Plot Point Challenges, I decided that the minor PP in this game would have Challenges that inflicted hits if failed. So Martin Bellator is Down and Out, another victim of the Tilbury bladder...!

The other cultists run towards the stone circle in search of the Major Plot point.

Steve Bellator passes his Health check and is back on his feet.

That ends the turn and I forget that the Plot Points should make random moves...! Annoying.

You're obviously getting too carried away with the action to concentrate on little things like rules, just how it should be. :)

Turn 3 and the excitement is reaching boiling point (I’m easily excited).

The Lady Ferocity draws first card and gets Foul Play and here’s a photo to prove it:

The nearest enemy is John Bellator so he has to pass the Peril and fails - down and out and here’s another photo to prove that:

Having only 1D in all of the skills required to pass that Peril, he automatically failed :(

Lady Ferocity then moves on to The stone circle which triggers the placement of the Major Plot Point. This is the eponymous Throppets Hentilaget and the random placement locates it next to a stone on the far side of the circle from her ladyship:

The Hentilaget has been thoughtfully placed in a barrel to protect it from the elements and make it more difficult for the dogs to sniff it out.

Meanwhile Stirrup draws the card Watch your Step. Want proof? Here it is:

He passes the peril with panache and, indeed, aplomb. Then he moves on to the stone circle in support of Lady Ferocity.

The third card drawn is by Sir Rufus and he gets No Shot. Thus he is limited to a quick twitch of his Mk3 Bristling Moustache this turn but nevertheless advances into the circle along with Sinbad and Esmerelda. Sinbad, having escaped from Wrench, races to the opposite side of the circle.

Throppetus Summus Bellator, the Leader of the Borsetshire Chapter of the Cult of the Worried Throppet (henceforth known as "The Cult Leader") attempts to use his cursed powers against Sir Rufus and with a burst of Paralizer. Later, Sir Rufus claimed that he warded this off with his moustache bristle but whatever the truth of that claim, the attack had no effect.

The cult Adiutor (roughly: second in command") exchanges shots with PC Smallbottom and the gallant Constable is Down and Out. His return fire has no effect. Rodney Bellator fires a burst at Sir Rufus and Esmeralda but this is no more effective than the Paralizer attack. Martin Bellator approaches another minor Plot Point that is revealed as a Mysterious Stranger. Martin succumbs to the Random Peril and fails his Health test - he’s Down and Out. Steve Bellator then attempts to ensnare the Mysterious Stranger but once again, some, er, mysterious power prevents success. The Peril is failed but Steve passes his Health check.

No recovery rolls are required and I remember to move the peripatetic Plot Points. Tilbury Pigeon, significantly, moves towards Sir Rufus' group. Ephraim, being under the control of the Adiutor, conforms to his moves. The Mysterious Stranger and the unrevealed 4th PP, move vaguely.

End of turn 3.

The situation in the centre at end of Turn 3 / Beginning Turn 4:

It's looking a bit like it could go either way!   :o  My money is on Sir Rufus though.

You may be right - time will tell.

Turn 4
After three moves, I decide to get tactical. The cards have had a largely negative effect so far so Esmerelda is selected to get first card on the basis that the dogs are not contributing much so if they get bad cards, it’s not too important. She draws On Guard and fails the associated Peril and can’t move this turn - card drawing tactics working...! Sinbad then draws a positive card, Foul Play, and nominates the Cult Leader as the recipient. That gentleman shrugs of such a pathetic Challenge. Sinbad then recklessly Rushes the Leader who disdainfully shoots at close range rather than waiting to receive the attack.

Two hits are scored and Sinbad fails one - Down and Out....!

Wrench takes the third card and draws Watch Your Head but passes the Challenge. Emboldened, he approaches Tilbury Pigeon who, in case you’ve forgotten, is a minor Plot Point. Tilbury, obviously still enraged by all that’s happened in the past 24 hours, fails to recognise a friend and sets about the unsuspecting Wrench with his bladder. Wrench is battered (or bladdered) to the ground - in game terms, he failed his Random Challenge and the subsequent Health roll and is Down.

Stirrup moves then shoots at Bellator Rodney. Rodney gets the worst of the exchange, fails his Health roll and is Down.

Next, Lady Ferocity shoots at the Cult Leader and, by jingo, doesn’t she live up to her name? She gets four hits. He Dodges and cancels two so has to make two Health rolls, one of which he fails....! He is down to D8 Health. Hoping to capitalise on this, Sir Rufus moves in to close range of the Leader. Adding his Make it Count card, he has five shooting dice. With calm precision, he empties the Bulldog's cylinder into the Leader - five hits...! "Take that, you common little cultist" he booms. His victim, not a great shot, chooses to Dodge but only manages to cancel two of the hits. He fails two of his three Health rolls and is down to to D6 Health - his situation is precarious. Thankfully for him, that completes Sir Rufus' group's turn.

Time for The Cult's Turn: The Adiutor (remember him? He is the sidekick) fires a burst at Lady Ferocity and Stirrup;

Stirrup takes a hit but passes Health; Lady Ferocity takes 2 hits and passes both Health checks;

The Cult Leader, suffering the effects of  several recent hits, decides to move back, then sends a Mindblast which affects Sir  Rufus, Lady Esmerelda and Stirrup; Esmerelda fails and runs away 3” as does, remarkably, Lady Ferocity. Sir Rufus passes. Bellator Steve approaches the Mysterious Stranger and passes the Random Peril but fails the Challenge.

Recovery Phase. Wrench falls Recovery and is Out; Bellator Rodney passes and is Up; Cult Leader fails his roll and remains injured.
