Tavern of the Crooked Hand (an after-action report)
« on: August 27, 2020, 02:47:34 PM »
All those half-timbered houses haven't been built for nothing! Here is last night's adventure (also available in French here). This campaign uses the Pathfinder Second Edition rules, but these events could have been simulated using nearly any ruleset. It turned out to be an infiltration mission gone horribly wrong.

After interrupting a demon summoning, Luciano the Varisian, Alarielle the Mage and O'Gral, Agent of Grome were in a bad way, but they had achieved their main objective: to eliminate a few of those Serpent Worshipers who had kidnapped many young women in the docks district to sacrifice them to their corrupt gods. Thanks to the clues found in the cave, they were able to trace their trail to the villa of Krama Viristani, a wealthy Vudrani merchant who must have been the high priest of the Serpent Worshipers.

After watching the comings and goings for a few days, they carried out their infiltration plan shortly after midnight. Luciano climbed onto the roof of a house adjoining the villa and noted the patrol routine of two guards with dogs.

Then Luciano and Alarielle, joined by Eraklesias the Druid (with his leopard companion) and Melodias, a Varisian bounty hunter, went over the wall behind the shop and warehouse. Without being spotted by the guards posted at the entrance, they were able to enter through a window on the ground floor of the main house, its lock picked with a master's hand by Luciano.

In cold blood, Melodias tried to silence the old cook, awakened at the wrong time, but in the darkness he missed his mark and the screams of the old woman alerted the guards, who ran to intercept the intruders in a disorganized fashion.

Meanwhile, Alarielle took advantage of an invisibility spell to search upstairs, looking for the room of the late demonic priest.

Eraklesias, Melodias and Luciano had a hard time getting the better of the guards who appeared on either side.

Finally came a seasoned fighter, Nefi Scrulskate, captain of the mercenaries in the pay of this corrupt merchant. But with the help of a few clever maneuvers, they manage to put him to flight, which shook the resolve of the remainder of his men.

Our adventurers emerged victorious, and they were able to get their hands on the merchant's vault, where they found a map that could show the location of an underground temple to the Serpent Cult - a lead they will have to pursue another day.

Very cinematic.  Lovely job on the table, minis and the AAR.

Thanks for the comments. In the heat of the action, I often forget to take photos of each step, but last Wednesday's game was an exception, and I managed to take some halfway decent pics along the way. Our next gme in mid-september will see the game master's hat switch to another member of our group so at last I'll get to play a character of my own. No idea at this stage whether we'll be crawling a dungeon, exploring the wilderness or doing another city adventure like this one.
