An Ambush Gone Awry - Adeptus Titanicus AAR.
« on: July 12, 2020, 05:21:30 AM »
The raid on the enemy supply pod had not gone as expected.  Legio Astorum was licking their wounds and on the back foot.  The Tiger Eyes saw the opportunity to advance on their enemies and without consolidating their position moved to the offensive.

Princept Kevoran moved quickly to respond.  He moved convoy after convoy to the agri-processing center at Potagiarc.  The shipping containers were empty but the effort did not go unnoticed.  His engineers were quickly preparing the area for an ambush.  Enemy infantry arrived first, dropping to the site and a running street battle quickly bogged down into positional warfare as the loyalist Iron Warriors that accompanied the Warp Runners were hard put trying to hastily defend the city against the incursion of Alpha Legion infiltrators.

But the maneuvering of even Astartes was inconsequential when compared to Engine War and soon the Legio Furreans titans had moved in through the arboreal outskirts of the center and were among the buildings and silos laying waste to everything in site.

They had gotten word from their Alpha Legion allies that the Warp Runners lay in wait for them.  When the two sides finally came within site of one another it was a battle that was anticipated with longing on both sides.

The loyalists sent all the remaining Knight Porphyron of House Thrower in the center of the enemy battle line.  Shrugging off horrific damage the knights kept up a punishing fire on the enemy while fighting off running attacks from  more agile House Malinax and House Devine knights.

The two massive Warlords stood on opposite ends of the center their heavy weaponry devastating to both titans and industrial infrastructure.

The two Astorum Reavers had taken opposite positions in the Loyalist line, holding both flanks, when the traitors massed on the right of their line denying the other flank one of the Reavers with one Warhound in support attempted to move to the schwerepunkt of the enemy attack, but the Reaver was brought to heel by House Malinax knights, their weapons tearing at the armour of the massive warmachine.  Although neither side was doing much damage to the other, the loyalist Titan was pushed out of the heaviest of fighting.

On the traitor right the fighting was the most intense.  First blood went to the loyalists.  A Tiger Eye Warhound had advanced over-ambitiously near to the foe, following up on an attack on the Reaver on that flank.  It's hubris was repaid with death as the Reaver that it was attempting to rake turned on it and fired an entire salvo of weaponry into the machine.  Its warhorns blaring turned from a scream of anger to a dirge of ending as the machine's engine shut down from the damage it had sustained and the titan crashed to earth leaving neither ground nor titan in a recognizable state.

With its void shields ripped away and leaking plasma from multiple locations due to engine and other structural damaged, the Warp Runner Reaver on that flank attempted to withdraw from the combat.  It was not quick enough and the starlike heat of a volcano cannon punctured through the structure of the Titan's leg sending it spinning to the ground where it came to rest among a forest like area.

With the two loyalist Reavers either destroyed or at bay the traitors surged forward.  Two of their Warhounds that had hidden among the forests came surging forward and now the House Thrower knights were surrounded by enemies.

Knights were now tearing at the armour of the loyalist Warlord when suddenly it's void shields collapsed after too much strain was put on the power system from Volcano cannon fire.

The Titan was now the primary target of the traitors and the Tiger Eyes Warlord fired salvo after salvo at the bedeviled Engine.

The knights pulled back as sheets of melting armour poured from the massive staggering construct.

Principes Kevoran came surging into the battle on the heels of the traitor reserve and seeing the situation called for a retreat.

As its engine was just about to turn critical and the internal structure of the titan was glowing with the heat of the fusion reactor the crew was relieved to hear it, and giving little thought to their fellow titans powered down all non-essential equipment as they pulled out from the battlefield.

The newly arrived Warhounds were determined to give the Warlord the time to escape, paying for time with blood if need be.

They quickly engaged the Malinax knights on the traitor left allowing the Reaver on that flank time to escape.

Kevroan died still hoping that the Thrower Porphyron knight armours might make it away when he came under the eye of the Tiger Eye's Warlord.  His Warhounds few void shields were stripped away almost instantly before the scout titan was eviscerated by the battle titan's volcanic weaponry.

His squadron mate picked up the slack steering one of the enemy Warhounds into a patch of thermal mines.  As the Warhound moved over the prepared area engineers activated the weapons and they popped up from the ground.  The powerful magnets in them stuck them to the legs of the Warhound.  The thermal mines glowed like small red zits on the face of a pale teen.  The heat then caused the war engine's legs to buckle and the machined collapsed, its engine being skewered on the melted leg and detonating.

The resulting explosion cleared away a number of the traitor knights and this gave the loyalist knights a path to retreat.

For their part the Porphyron kept up a steady fire on the Warhound that had been dogging them, their fire concentrated on the cockpit and ripped the engine's head off, toppling the machine to the ground.

Quickly the losses had piled up for the traitors and now they had few titans remaining to entrap their foes.

Still it was enough, the Warlord was almost undamaged and the remaining Warhound and few knight armours that were left managed to bring down the last Astorum Warhound.  The remaining House Thrower knight was cut off again and sold his life dearly, damaging another Cerastus knight before being obliterated by the Warlord's Volcano cannon.

Surveying the ruins the traitors could not say they had won.  The loyalist had managed to get two of their larger titans to safety.  While the traitors held the ground they only had a few knights and two Titans remaining.  Their commander had lived through the battle while the enemy commander had been killed but that was only comfort to him and scant comfort at that given his report to Lorgar would have to include so many lost titans.
