The village and forest sections look great. Well done  8)
Those Hovels round houses have certainly stood the test of time.

Thanks fellas.

Away for quick trip to a camp site so no paint with me.  I did bring the Roman sprues so was able to make a second lot of auxiliaries.  Not quite enough figures in the pack to do three though, the minimum required I think for 100 points in II...that plus some archers which I’m very disappointed will have to be short arses from another manufacturer as Victrix dick about by not completing a range Before scatter gunning other releases.

So I will look out for loose sprues to make up the third group.  I have modified a figure to hold a torch in his shield hand....and realised he won’t see bugger all with it in front like that!  Still, should make reflective light interesting on him.

The last few figures I have will be in the wolf skins provided.  I can’t see much evidence of the use of wolf skins but I like the idea of some cult group of vicious soldiers using them to scare the barbarians..hence the use of severed heads etc.

I also picked up a sprue of mounted generals (and this centurion) though I have found little evidence of being able to use it in I I yet!

Painted minis up later in the week.....first squad is nearly finished.

Looks good!

What's your opinion on the scale between the foot soldier and the mounted officer? Is there indeed a scale difference?

Someone clearly believes horses were shorter then?  Depends on breed I suppose.  The centurion is the same size as th3 foot figure.

Edit:  sorry, no he’s taller!

Well, it seems like Victrix WILL soon be releasing Roman Archers, so my interest piqued once more, I set about putting together some of their Germans last week.   Going to to have a go at painting the shields and applying transfers on the sprue.

I’m not particularly comfortable painting bare skin so I don’t expect them to be my best painted minis, but the shields will deflect away from my talents I hope!

Anyway, a pair of leaders, one group of Foederati (ex Roman military service) and two groups of warriors ready for paint.

Going to tackle those shields first mind….

Hopefully when I get some paint on them!

I spent all last night cutting out and sticking 28 German shield transfers…..and now I’m adding paint and tidying th3m up….and I come to remembering  WHY I hate transfers.  Added to the fact I need a lot more of them yet, and interest may wane once more!!

Hopefully the shields will be finished by tomorrow night, then I may just get to paint a test mini!  As I said, I can’t do skin, so should look pretty average!  Still, getting a painted mini down will give me a boost.

Time to start reading these rules!

Digits, I must admit I like adding shield decals. Using the superb Little Big Man Products I find they really add to the look of my armies, and really enhance my increasingly meagre painting efforts.

Yup…that’s what I’m relying on too! Lol

But “like” adding them?  It takes all sorts!  ;)

Whilst I remember, I’ve ordered a sprue of Warlord Celts.  If I mix in the Victrix heads, they should mix in I hope.  Any height differences are fine I suspect as we are all different.  But as I realise that ALL the Victrix minis have a raised right arm, I’m reluctant to start kit bashing them as they are ultimately a mob and any conversion work would be lost in the crowd.   I think I will need to convert some to slingers.  I can’t understand how they couldn’t fit a few on th3 sprue but I think cut paper and gs stones, plastered in pva should do the trick.  A few gs pouches shouldn’t be impossible.  Besides, I only need six of them.

Great stuff in this thread, especially that village. I look forward to seeing it continue. I agree with you on height differences. And glad to hear Victrix is going to do Roman archers.

From the net.

Western

Eastern

Box contains both…..no specific date yet but announced last year.

Shields done.  Don’t think they look too shabby……and big enough to hide most of the mini!  :D

Plank lines added with fine liner.

Glad to see you back at this project.
 :)

I must confess: I had not thought of adding transfers on the sprue.
It has to be easier!

Seems like I need to eat more Weetabix!

Indeed…the one that fell off was a lot fiddler to fit and paint.

For me….I usually undercoat everything black.  As I needed the front in white, this was spray simple on the sprue.   There will be minor touch ups when I cut them off, but 80% of the rims are in burnt umber so easy fix.

A few more packs of Little Big Men decals arriving shortly…

Cheers fella
