GW Middle Earth Mumak WIP - All Five Complete - 04 Jan
« on: July 20, 2020, 09:29:24 PM »
Working on five mumaks for my Middle Earth collections. One will be stock out of the box but all the rest have modifications to beast and/or howda as well as the crew. So far this project has required a band saw, many uses of a power drill, and drawn some blood.

the most ambitious is the Far Harad conversion. A mix of heavy card, round and oval plastic bases, bamboo kabob sticks, Renedra fence, and bits from Foundry Masai and Frostgrave Tribals. Crew will be converted Tribals and GW Half Trolls.

This one has ballista in the sponsons. Weapons are from Vendel  via Sgt Major. Crew castings were so bad I had to bin them but the weapons turned on well I think. New crew from Wargame Factory Persians. I'm using some Wargame Atlantic Persians for crew on some mumaks.

This one won't look too different until paint and crew - it is for the Harad King.

Modifications: added some armor to the king's beast, detail is a bit soft but I think shading individual scales will bring it out. Also some ankle spikes, a tusk weapon, and Persian shields on one howdah. I added magnets to the front platform and the base of the beast handlers, strong enough to keep the handler in place during most game play.

Work continues: Beast Master conversions based on Frostgrave GA Tribals. The idea of 5 identical beast masters at $15 each doesn't work for me.

The trunks included don't work for any head pose other than the unmodified head down. So after a few failed experiments a member of the GBHL Facebook group suggested using two part resin and bending it before full cure. It worked better than I expected.

Finished the modified heads including custom trunks and various types of tusk weapons. Far Harad beast has a one broken tusk, a mark from one of his many dominance contests with other bulls.

This is an impressive project! I like the way you’re converting and replacing.  Looking forward to seeing more.
