Survivor X-01 solo game.
« on: July 27, 2020, 02:15:43 PM »
My eldest son bought me the Fallout Survivor X-01 and Dogmeat for Father's Day.

I've got the Survivor painted but currently don't have a game for him to slot in to.

Fortunately a fella from our board game group wanted play testers for a game he's developing where you play a sole survivor battling against the odds.

Afternoon off work so it would be rude not to.

So how did the game turn out? I like the idea of a sole survivor game.

It went well although it's early days for it; there's still plenty for him to do to make a full  rule set.

Currently the hero needs to avoid the 3 types of enemy, get across the board and escape.

He's adding goals/tasks next so should be fun.

It sounds like this could be an interesting game. It is interesting how many video games operate in a single character format, but that doesn't seem to have been translated to the tabletop to my knowledge. I remember seeing skirmish games with four characters and thinking that felt very small sided even in the skirmish genre. I think that "army of one" style play lends itself well to tropes like super spies (Bond or something like Tom Clancy Splinter Cell), and even horror like Silent Hill. I think there is greater tension knowing you get one shot to complete the mission without the use of sacrificial lambs.

I don't know the guy all that well, he's a friend of a friend; he might even be on here for all I know.
Once he's moved it along a bit I will mention LAF - he might get a playtester or two from outside of his sphere.
