Raiders and Reeves
« on: November 01, 2020, 08:29:25 PM »
Hi there

Recently, tempted by my friend Krognak, I've got into historical wargaming. We're doing stuff from the Viking Age, which I reenact as a pastime. Linked to my reenactment kit we have gone for the late 9th century, after the defeat of the Great Heathen Army, where there is lot of scope for minor skirmishes between a resurgent Wessex and some sneaky Danish raiders. Here are some of the models we have painted so far:

We're using a mix of Victrix, Warlord, Gripping Beast and V&V models, most likely for use with the Saga: Age of Vikings ruleset, though I have my own dark plans to twist the LoTR SBG ruleset to historical purposes. For an introduction to my force you can visit https://disorderedretreat.com/disgraceful-behaviour/ (article comes with a content warning for bad poetry), while Krognak's initial post can be found at https://disorderedretreat.com/raiding-the-british-isles-for-fun-profit/

We hope you enjoy our efforts, and welcome comments and questions.

Great work! I am looking forward to seeing this develop further. I toyed with a similar idea regarding MESBG and historical.

Recently, tempted by my friend Krognak...

Hey, that's me!

Wash has graciously let me post the first update for this project - it can be found here and compares the various plastic Viking minis out there at the moment. I also try to address the commonly asked question "Do they look weird next to each other?".

In the spirit of progress here's a picture of my WIP warband leader:

I post my hobby-related rambling and progress on my blog: disorderedretreat.com

Thanks! I’m pretty excited for how it’s going, we’ll see if I can maintain that enthusiasm long enough to get to a game, given the state of things at the moment. I haven’t achieved a vast amount since my last post, but I do have another 4 thegns ready to fight, as well as a house, and a step by step on how I made the removable base for my warlord so he can be used in games of Saga or smaller skirmish games.

The full article can be found at https://disorderedretreat.com/min-wandrian-scyf-ful-aelen-is/, with apologies once again for the poetry.
