28MM American Football Figures
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:00:39 PM »
Hi,
Does anyone do 28mm American Football figures? Years ago there was a company that did them but I think they are long since out of production.

Thanks in advance. :)

Goblin Forge had this guy for sale not too long ago:

He's no longer in their online shop though.

A company called 'Heroes Miniatures' used to make a range of at least 30 items in true 25mm.  From memory they disappeared in the early/mid '90s & I have no idea what happened to them.  I still have a squad of 19 miniatures.
Forgive the paintjob (Hardly a 'Commitment to Excellence'!), I did these about 20 years ago.  :o

I also have 2 sets of rules:
Gridiron Heroes: A bit simpler & (I believe) brought out to go with the miniatures & produced by Tabletop Games.
(a set currently on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GRIDIRON-HEROES---Rules-for-American-Football_W0QQitemZ280383618653QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20090811?IMSfp=TL090811138002r6300 )

Fourth & 99: Much more involved. Written/produced by 'A. R. Orbison'

I dont think these miniatures have seen the light of day in 15 years.
A mate at the time had a Cowboys team which is why I'm now stuck with just the one team.  :'(

Thanks Overlord that's fantastic! I've just bid on those rules.
I wonder if it's time another miniatures company brought out American Football figures. Hmmmmmmm.

I was a Chicago Bears fanatic back in the 80's when I was a spotty youth. Mike Ditka,Jim Mcmahon......ah the memories. :'(

Depending on your modeling skill, you might try to convert human Blood Bowl teams from the Evil Empire, if your search turns up no other results...

Real men wear black.  8)
I started following it in the early 80's too & even played for a few years.   I still have a Raiders helmet I got signed by Howie Long when I went to the training ground when they were in LA ('91). I also saw them play twice, at the LA Coliseum & San Diego.
I'm also off to the NFL game at Wembley in October.  :D

I wasn't that grande. :-[ I don't know why the Bears appealed to me. Probably because their navy blue jacket was the only one I was allowed to buy and wear for school. lol

They're fantastic! The fridge and Mcmahon! And you're right, they won't take much converting at all! :-*

Thanks Chairface!

Yeah, me too.  I even get to see my team play this year! :)

I love me some BloodBowl, but it would be good to see some proper american football figures, too.  Of course, if you wanted to re-create the Lingerie Bowl (yeah, not actually joking: link), Shawdowforge already do all the figures you'd need!

No problem. The guys at Impact! are great to deal with and will treat you right. And take a look through the rest of the store. There will probably be something else that you can use. OH! Check out their football shaped D6's! I'd show a link, but I'm posting from work.

Keeper:

Speaking of Lingerie Bowl figs, Shadowforge is great, but Impact and Hasslefree have some female Fantasy Football figs that are even better.

Thanks, Chairface :)

If I didn't already have at least one of all of them, I'd be off to buy more figures this afternoon! :D

As usual, I'm late here, but you won't believe the size of the grin on my face seeing those Raider players. Three cheers for Mr Overlord's superb taste in football  :D

I've tried the "AR Orbison" rules, but they are very slow to play, due to the amount of detail in them. Very accurate, but no way you could play a full game. The "Gridiron Heroes" are much quicker to play and worth getting.

For figures, why not do them in 2-D out of card. I did this in the old pre-PC days, when I had to draw each player freehand, paint them with water colours and then cover with "sticky-backed plastic" ( yes, John Noakes was still doing Blue Peter, I think)  ;)
I did two teams (Raiders and Dolphins) then gave up out of shear boredom  :(

They worked ok, but nowadays with DTP programs and a decent printer, you could easily achieve every team in the NFL if you liked.

Ahh,home made card figures. I did the same once when I made a M.A.S.K. role playing game as a boy. Ahh the memories, jumpers for goal posts. lol

I don't like the idea of card now though, I want figures. I got the Gridiron rules off Ebay and now I'm on the hunt for those old heroes figures. If I can't find any then the Killer B sculptors may be getting a slightly different set of designs in the not too distant future. ;)
