Rumbleslam! - Any reviews?

Hi all

The Boy is starting to show an interest in miniatures and gaming, and as he is currently obsessed by the frankly ridiculous world of WWE, I was looking at the Rumbleslam game available from TT Combat to at as a gateway drug...

Before I make another ill-advised purchase, I was wondering if anyone has any experience of playing, or can give an opinion on how enjoyable and engaging it would be for an eight year-old and his daft old dad? I can't seem to find a great deal of info out there, but given the amount of minis available for it I guess it must be reasonably popular...?

Anyone able to help?

Hi,

I played a game of it once and it was fun and he should be able to engage with it as you can do things like play to the crowd. Which when playing the halflings I fluffed the role and the crowd hated my team, so I played em as the bad guys, distracting the ref and fouling the other guys etc.

I'd think of buying it properly at some point, and given I'm not a WWE fan if I enjoyed it and could pick up how to play (and win) on a first sitting.


As another option if your young chap is a marvel fan you could buy one of the Busy Books with figures Spiderman, Avengers etc, get some freebie/cheap superhero rules and play a game with that before splurging for a full on ruleset. A few posts down I noted exactly such a thing Age of Heroes and the guy says there FREE and for gaming with a 6 and 8 year old. You can get busy books for around £6 in a lot of supermarkets or ebay and Amazon.


Either way happy gaming with the youngling.

I played it for the first time a few weeks ago and have to say that I thought it was really good fun..Introduced to it by a friend (who was a fan of Wrestling nonsense as a youngster) who bought it on a whim.
It is actually a well thought out and simple to learn game.

Best way to see what it is actually like is to watch this video, as I am pretty sure that I have the rules sussed after one game (where we made quite a few mistakes!) and watching this....



Having no idea what would be suitable for an eight year old, watching the video should help you decide if it is a good idea or not.

All in all, I must say it is good fun, ridiculous and highly addictive (and I cannot stand the whole WWE thing!), so much so that I have bought the starter set and the Halfling team (who can resist Halfling Mexican wrestlers??).

Frankly, it is daft, but well worth a shot.
You may want to get it for yourself, anyway...

Yes, I have the game. Have played it a bunch of times. It can be a lot of fun and even tense at times.
The figures are great to paint. Additional figures are not cheap but can be worth it to enhance the game.

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered the starter set. 

I think if it's a hit it will make a nice little project for us both to add more teams and maybe one of the 3D rings. I'd better slow down cos I'm making plans already...

Well, my box turned up yesterday and I've got to say I am impressed!

I have had a brief look through the rules and I think they should be easy enough to use but I will try and get a game in with The Boy as soon as I can to properly understand them in practice.

The box contents are really great quality, by the way, excellent production for counters, cards, mat etc but the figures themselves are bloody lovely, I'm really looking forward to painting them!

Quick question though, will they be ok to superglue to the acrylic bases or will they need pinned?    Not really used to working with resin and I don't want to knacker them...

Before playing, but after reading through the rules swiftly, watch this video...it really does make everything very clear:



It highlighted a couple of things that we had overlooked.
 

As for sticking them to bases: Superglue should be sufficient if you do not intend actually throwing the figures out of the ring!

I just used glue on mine and they are fine.

Well, a wee while later and I've the basic set, the deluxe ring and a couple of superstars all put together and coloured in.

The rules are a little over complicated for The Boy, but since his autism makes him reinvent any ruleset to his own advantage, that's not an issue.  He has come up with a basic set of rules on his own that just use the Crowd dice, basically a yes/no outcome, which I am oddly proud of him for as we have had some very quick and funny games off the back of it.

He already has orders in for the luchador halflings and all the recognisable WWE characters. The autism means he has no concept of money, either...

Might have to give this a go, it's been on the radar for a while. I must admit to not being the hugest fan of the model line, so if there are alternatives available anywhere else I'd be very pleased to hear it.
