Sources for Australian mythos creatures - 28mm
« on: September 17, 2020, 11:59:25 PM »
In an attempt to expand on my 1930's Australian Civil War project, I thought I'd use my assorted characters to explore Terror Australis!

Does anyone have any sources or ideas for suitable Australian mythos miniatures that would work in 28mm?

Ideally I'd be looking for creatures such as:
- Bunyips
- Yowies
- Dropbears

But I'm open to suggestions of other suitable creatures :)

Try yer local Woolies for Yowies.

That said I reckon the bottom one (appropriately enough from Qld) is the spitting image of Peter Dutton so you could probably fashion one from a small spud.

Bunyip - most every artist who has drawn or modelled one has just done their own thing. Listening to any description will probably lead to any number of fantasy minis.
Yowie - just use a Yeti or Sasquatch, because that's what it refrs to.
Drop bears - polar bears. Literally polar bears.

I think you mean koala bears.
https://www.itv.com/news/2020-01-13/itv-news-correspondent-tricked-into-holding-deadly-drop-bear-by-australian-wildlife-park

Terry Pratchett described Drop Bear meets Wizzard.

I am assuming you mean Australian cryptids etc.

The Great Race of Yith were based in Australia.

I am building a small collection, but in 15mm for my Prehistoric Australian project.

Here is a Pathfinder model of a Bunyip -

I have a couple of Bunyips in 15mm. One is based on the Bunyip at Murray Bridge called Bertha that was sculpted by a friend. The other is a fantasy swamp type monster.

My Yowie is a Sasquatch.

shadowbeast - Thanks for the link to the Bundy ad  :D
My Dropbear surprisingly isn't a polar bear, but maybe I should change that. However currently, it's an over sized Koala.

And don't forget the Gobbledok, with it's ear piercing cry of 'chippees'... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6etJppIVSYc

(Khurasan has a proxy in 15mm )

Splod you should have a chat with Nic at Eureka. Nic already have a good range of Aussie fauna and I don’t think he would be too hard to convince to expand the range into the fantastical. It potentially fits with a couple of ranges, Mad Maximillian,  the Denisovians etc,
