Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone, and Atheling, no need to be contrite at all - all feedback is well received, both positive and negative.

I've never known any of your comments (or anyone else's for that matter) on LAF be anything other than well intentioned and constructive. I guess that's why we're all here.

As a war bow enthusiast ropey archery is one of my bugbears, especially in telly programs and in films....

Here's an attractive but poor example of movie archery....

I've always found it better for arrow nocks to be on the bowstring so the arrow actually flies.... :D

This is me posing with my 45lb ash "whyte" bow for the original stances for Drew (the sculptor)....

I also have several war bows between 80lbs draw weight and 100lbs draw weight - two are yew (Italian high alpine and American) and one is laminate - they're just too heavy to hold in a pose for photography purposes in my back garden hence the use of the 45lb bow...

Charlie also raises an interesting point regarding poses, the pose with the arm behind the head post release often causes consternation.

When you shoot a high poundage war bow (as opposed to a Victorian style longbow) and draw to the ear (rather than the lips) you can't hold the draw, you don't "aim" a war bow you shoot instinctively marking your target before you nock, draw and loose. There is no "aiming" as you would expect with lighter weight Victorian longbows where the arrow is "locked" at the lips for aiming purposes.

As a result of this the drawing hand naturally flows behind the archer as the arrow is loosed. Tests have also shown that this puts an extra 5-10lb of draw weight into the draw as well. Hence the poses with the archer's hand behind his head. It's based on my own experience.

In other news...

Kickstarter have just approved the project:

I think this link will take you through to the preview:

I have seen these in the 'flesh' and really like them.
 8) 8)

As I do not play or collect historical armies (unless someone else is laying a game on, of course!) I would not use them in a WOTR setting, but I DO think they would look fantastic in a lot of fantasy settings and can see them working really well in various genres, GoT especially (I can see a few making their way into a certain Captain Blood's GoT House forces in future, I reckon).
 ;)

P.S. Nice 'posing', John!

Might be
An odd question but could you tell me the dimensions of those oval cav bases. Are they 25x50? 35x50? Something else?

I think they’re 25 x 50. I’d have to go and look at the laser file to be certain.

it looks like the Kickstarter preview is live:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/330581752/28mm-wars-of-the-roses-miniatures-for-tabletop-wargames?ref=7384te&token=1e8b07f8

Launch date is still planned for the 1st November 2020 to run for three weeks.

The page is still in draft form and I have to refine rewards and shipping

All the best

Wonderful miniatures, I am definitely backing at least with the basic army even though I have enough stock and it is not exactly my period ;).
You should include the comparison photos (it would be great to make some more with Front Rank, Crusader etc.) in the campaign section.
Also think about a small skirmish force (e.g. something like 12 bill, 12 bow, 6 foot knights, 6 knights/cavalry, some mtd and foot officers/standards, maybe 1 or 2 additional packs from the special infantry).

If I may add a wish: some armed peasants, maybe plunderers, would always be great...

A wonderful KS, but in these times of unclear conditions after the 31st December I have to wait and see. Hope you will offer these figures in a regular shop. So I can order it with clear conditions. Under normal circumstances I would do the KS. But in 2020 nothing is normal I’m afraid. :(

I’ll give the skirmish force some thought Amsivar. And I’ll try to do some more comparison shots. Day job is a bit hectic currently.

New sculpts are always possible, I’ll see what the future holds. They do represent a major investment though.

Understand about the December 31st thing. The miniatures will be in the web shop when the Kickstarter has shipped (if I raise the cash)

All the best

John

It looks like the kickstarter has funded, congratulations!!!

I look forward to getting my archers, billmen and artillery next year!

Will the whole lot be made available for general release shortly afterwards? I was sorely tempted to pledge a higher amount and get the full lot, but decided it was probably best to hold off for now... So I'm pleased to see you've reached the goal with just my smaller pledge, and I do plan to buy most of the other packs later on down the line.
