Anyone setting sail with Mantic's Armada?
« on: October 12, 2020, 05:29:47 PM »
I was a long ago Man O War player, and played again recently in 2017 hosting an event. I know GW put out the gorgeous looking Dreadfleet, but I didn't hear wonderful things about the gameplay.

Mantic, looks like they're trying to fill that MoW void with Armada. Has anyone pre-ordered the set? What are your expectations?

I did. The game is based on Black Seas and the resin models are lovely. Seems great fun.

I haven’t played Black Seas, can you speak a little to why that ruleset is a draw?

I've preordered it. I was also a big fan of Man O War back in the day and I'm pretty excited about this.

The gameplay looks fun. For me I don't want a fantasy naval game to be very granular and simulate sailing to the Nth degree, whilst I don't want it to be TOO basic, this seems to be hitting the right level . There are some good articles on Mantics blog which discuss the mechanics. There is also a good YouTube video by a guy called Blackjack Legacy where he plays a game using the Basic rules and it looks a lot of fun.

I'll wait for reviews and then decide, as usual. :)

I've been quite interested as well. I'd love to get a decent replacement for Man O'War.  The minis look great, but I'd like to see something on game play.

Looking forward to getting the rules and a Basilean fleet. Really like the look of the Empire of Dust ships too.

Watched the Black Jack Legacy game run through and seemed quick and fun. Hope it feels like a fantasy naval game not an historical one with different ship designs.
