Well my first Victrix Dark Ages figure, and having bought a sprue each of Saxon and Viking warriors for a fiver each I am impressed with their quality and value.

Cheers all for the kind words

Nice painting. They are brilliant figures. Looking forward to the Normans.

Cap'n they are great figure aren't they, and a joy to paint. The Normans and the archers both look to be of the same high standard.

Nice work  8)

Are you planning on mixing and matching the Norse and Saxon bits on some of the models?

Most likely as there appears to be very little difference between either set other than the Vikings have more hair. The plan is a create a small Saxon shield wall, and then have individual character Vikings.

Historically speaking, depending on the century in hand, there would have been little difference between them at all in terms of armies. I think I've mentioned it before but I remember having a phone conversation with a certain miniature manufacturer famous for their 'Dark Ages' offerings where we cam to the consensus that is it not beyond the realm of possibility that King Harald Hardrada's army in the invasion of England 1066 might well have used kite shields. Why not? If your life might mean keeping up with military technology?

an update on the Saxons, but these are going to take a backseat to the amazing Claymore Castings that I have just got ahold of. I was not aware of this range of figures until last week but they are some of the best 28mm figures I have come across - but first the second Saxon

... and the Claymore Castings figures - to start with I have got hold of 12 pavisers plus 4 men at arms, who will be Genoese mercenaries, and which in time I hope to add some crossbows to.

These figures are stunning, and a delight to paint
