Colonial house for Singapore
« on: October 26, 2020, 02:48:04 AM »
I'm playing a Chain of Command campaign set in Singapore in 20mm and need to represent a house belonging to a rubber plantation owner. I have one of the 20mm Sarissa colonial houses and I've done some work on that to make it suitable for the Far East. You can see how I did those modifications in a longer post here https://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/2020/06/sarissa-20mm-colonial-house.html

For the campaign I wanted to add a base and so I've recycled a base I had made for a house in French village. For more tropical flavour I've added a couple of palm trees.

The car is die cast and from Oxford. I sprayed it with matt varnish and gave it a dry brush just to make it look less toy like.

That looks great.
All the little touches like the palm trees, and plant pots.
It has all the flavour for Singapore.

That is amazing.

I am going to borrow some of those ideas for Vietnam.

Very nice. it would work for Indochina just as it is too.

My thoughts too, though I would want it in 28mm.
Also do for Viet-Nam.

That looks amazing! I love a good conversion.

If you guys are looking for more South Asian buildings, https://www.dragonfroggames.co.uk/ sell MDF shops in both 20 and 28mm. They are nice kits, though the upper floors are not full height, so they come up shorter than other manufactures.

Thanks Joekano. I wasn't thinking of streets, rather an isolated plantation house.
The buildings seem very nice, & I might have been tempted, but all the 28mm ones
are listed as, 'Out of stock'.

Thanks also Ultra. You do yourself a disservice, your building is well done.
I might even have a Sarissa one hiding in the MDF hill. Not as big as the
lead mountain, but still quite big.

Your buildings are just great.
I love the dangling air con unit on the damaged building. That is a lovely touch.

Thanks.

@Tactical Painter, where did you get the car and how did you do the walls and fencing? I looked on your blog post and it only covered the building.

Oxford are a company who do ready made 1/76th vehicles.

As has been said the car is from Oxford Die Cast (1/76 scale). I sprayed with Matt varnish and then gave a dry brush.

The walls are made from cork floor tiles available from hardware stores.

The fence is an eBay purchase from a Chinese supplier doing model railway scenery, lots of choices in styles and in OO scale which is 1/76 or 20mm.

Thanks.
At some point I had forgotten that this was 20mm and not 28mm ^__^

If you want similar in 28mm, try Solido.
Sometimes e-bay has them cheaper than brand new.
