1877 Russian Cavalry for Boxer Rebellion
« on: November 30, 2020, 03:56:55 AM »
Hello
I’ve recently discovered and bought some samples from Out Post Wargames..I really like them and would like to build units out of them as they are quite cheap, they sell single figures and customized orders if you ask..the owner was extremely kind ..
Well my intention , for the above mentioned reasons , is to buy some Russian Cavalry or Cossacks above all the ones in caps labeled for 1877 Turkish War and use them for 1900 Boxer Rebellion ..also Redoubt make some specific cavalry but I prefer Cossacks or line cavalry with visored hat in addition to Cossacks ..I understand that also Tsuba miniatures have some for 1904  but they are big packs and maybe too modern look..so any comments for 1877 Outpost as proxies for China 1900 Campaign?
Many thanks

Would like to help, but this too far outside of my sphere for me to have any useful knowledge at all.

Out Post Wargame Russo-Turkish War figures are amongst my favourites! Great sculpts and as you say very good service. I especially like the option for variable heads for the same body!
In my opinion for me these figures would serve for 1900 Cossacks. Depends on how picky you want to be.

The below picture is from weaponsandwarfare.com it’s dated 1904 and for even then the uniform of the Cossack looks close enough to the Out Post figures...

Here are my Out Post dismounted Cossacks albeit for an 1879 campaign...

Cheers!

Thanks Captain Darling ..your well painted minis put some light on my question and the scan of the 1904 uniform plate is quite interesting because it show that even in 1904, despite my initial perplexity, the tunic was quite loose and similar to the 1877 minis ..in fact the represented Cossack sport a “gymnasterka” fatigue blouse rather than a tunic and its certainly more iconic for a colonial type game like Boxer Rebellion ..I didn’t imagine that even cavalry could be provided with such a dress.
