A Chinese Courtyard Style House
« on: November 07, 2020, 05:55:46 AM »
For the past couple of months I have been working on completing a Chinese courtyard style house. Inspired by various Pulp novels and, of course, the ever valiant Flashman I have long wanted a more formal style Chinese house for my gaming table.

Fellow LAFer Joekano's Hutong thread http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=96650.0  was a major impetus toward completing this courtyard house as I seriously lust after his buildings.  I had purchased a broken up resin house on eBay years ago and recently was able to rehabilitate it to make up the main house http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=127072.0

The gates, bar one, and walls are all from Oshiro. Many thanks to James for getting these quality casts to me in the Back of Beyond of the Pacific.

The inner gate is a Monday Knight Productions piece that I got off eBay but can't find in their current catalog.  I suspect that it is a 15mm Napoleonic gate but it works fine for me. I have included a couple of streetscape scenes with other buildings because I could not resist getting out some of my other toys to see how they go together.  It looks like the local blue roofing tile company is doing very well indeed.

The nice thing is that using the Oshiro walls, gates and columns allows me to expand the house and elaborate the complex.  I already plan on having a side garden with pagodas in the future. My Chinese 28mm obsession continues.

Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Lovely stuff.  That roofer has done work round here too, blue being so much more interesting than grey

That is utterly impressive. Any chance of a rundown of the paints used for the rooftiles?

Thanks Fellas. Hang Tuah the roof tiles are quite easy. I undercoat with a flat black. The paints are craft paints; 1st layer Americana Victorian Blue, 2nd layer Americana Williamsburg Blue.
