Star Wars Legion Mini Question
« on: November 18, 2020, 10:28:48 PM »
I'm being tempted back into Star Wars gaming by the usual suspects here and by working my way thru the movies/series with my family.

Are the Legions minis hard plastic, resin, or what?
Do you prime and paint them like normal resin/hard plastic/metal miniatures?

How do they scale up with other brands of miniatures?
How do the scale up with Imperial Assault minis?

Thank you all for the help and for the inspiration.

They're hard plastic and you paint them like normal. I always give them a quick wash in warm soapy water to get the grease off the surface first, just in case. They're big models, 30mm to the eye, so although there are a few Imperial Assault models that sit well enough next to them, they will be bigger than most.

Personally I love 'em; the aesthetic really pushes my buttons. Buy them in the right place and you can knock a few quid off the RRP or go all out with one of the starter boxes and get a lot of models at a considerable saving. You can always offload the ones you don't want (if there are any) on other collectors to make a bit of money back.

I only own a few Rebel Troopers and some Stormtroopers, the ones you would also find in the core set, and have to say that the plastic is a notch above the typical boardgames-plastic but not hard plastic as in GW- / Renedra- Style hard plastic. It feels a bit like boardgames / PVC miniatures.

Since they have this slighty more "rubber" like feeling I would definitely wash them in some soap water as I would expect them to have some mould release agent on them.

As this is the only set I own I can't say anything about other units but I have heard they have recently switched to hard plastic with the newer miniatures.

All in all they are nice miniatures, although I prefer the slightly less "heroic" style of the Imperial assault miniatures and still grumble about them having used another scale. And the bases I could not make myself to use, however practical they are, so I am using regular 25mm rounds. As long as it is only infantry it works fine (am not a Legion player!).

I can only echo what others have said, lovely minis, very satisfying to paint. I just treat them like I do all models and they have been fine.

I can confirm that the newer releases are hard plastic, and come on a sprue with various options.

On the whole they're all nice figs, minimal clean up etc. It's just a pain in the arse they're not standard wargaming 28/30mm. But then does a standard really exist anymore, there seem to be few manufacturers sticking to true 28's these days.

Considering the recent news that Asmodee is shifting all mini game prduction to Atomic mass games, including their 3 starwars titles, (could have been 4 but unfortunately they seem to have dropped Imperial Assault,) I'd buy up what you want now, as the future of the line seems a little uncertain. At best they'll carry on as they are, but who knows.

Thank you everyone for the replies and information. I've ordered the Rebel Troopers Unit Expansion  to get my feet wet before I take the plunge so to speak.

As a follow-up, how do the Imperial Assault Rebels character figures size up with Legion?
Specifically the following packs;
Hera Syndulla and C1-10P Ally
Sabine Wren and Zeb Orrelios
Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus

Imperial Assault unfortunately was a bit inconsistent in scale.

In general the Imperial Assault minis are smaller (Imperial Assault roughly 28mm compared to Legion 32mm). Somer later Imperial Assault miniatures tended to be bigger, almost being the same size as the Legion figures. I think I remember someone once mentioned the Death Troopers from IA in particular.

Donut have the Star Wars Rebels characters you mention, sorry! Maybe check out Agis´StarWars thread? He has a ton of stuff painted and might now the comparative scale.

Indeed, maybe check out my thread or website:
http://www.adpublishing.de/html/legion.html

I got not all covered, but some:

Comaring IA and Legion is difficult, since IA had some serious scale issues!
Some fit perfectly, while others...
cheers and keep on gaming, Agis - http://www.adpublishing.de

Agis, Thank you.
Your posts and website are a huge inspiration to me.
I had seen your posts on the scale issues, but hoped someone else might have some additional information to add.

Thank you everyone.
