28mm Mycenaeans/Trojans compatibility?
« on: November 19, 2020, 05:13:04 PM »
Hi folks,

Can anyone comment of the compatibility of various BA Aegean lines? I am specifically thinking about Wargames Foundry, Redoubt and Eureka, but thoughts on other ranges appreciated as well.

Many thanks!

Nic

I have previously posted comparison pictures here which you can maybe find with a search. If not can try and post something.
The Foundry and Eureka (lovely by the way) figures are compatible.
Most of the redoubt figures are compatible but are rather dated now.
I also have some Newline designs figures which are nice but rather slim.

Stay away from the Old Glory Trojan War figures, they are terrible.

Some covered in this board's comparison thread: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=38197.0  ;)
All Perry-sculpted ranges at Foundry are very similar in style. So their Egyptians, Sea People and Mycenaeans are compatible.
FWIW I received quite a few miscasts from Redoubt (missing limbs, no faces) and wasn't impressed by their customer service. To be fair, that was back in 2012. May be better now, didn't care to try again.

I used Foundry, Eureka, Redoubt, Blacktree and Old Glory figs for my Mycenaean force. I got rid of nearly all of my Old Glory figures because they were hideous. Blacktree had a few good sculpts, but a lot of dorky poses.
Foundry were the best for rank and file. Eureka have the newest range. They are very nice, especially their character/ leader miniatures, but the range is limited. I used Redoubt for the lovely chariot designs, but their miniatures are very heavy on flash and poorly cast. So Eureka and Foundry would be the best options.
All are scale compatible with each other.

The Foundry figures are very nice are obviously a consistent size with other “Biblical” ranges eg Egyptian or Hittite. Warlord also produce a range for their “Hail Caesar” range. Originally produced by “Cutting Edge Miniatures” they are very nice figures.

I find Newline a bit hit and miss. I have their Hittites which are nice but don’t like others.

The Redoubt Enterprises are now quite old and sold by Andy Grubb. There have been posts on this forum about “Customer Service”.

Redoubt are quite cheap at £7.50 for 6 figures. Foundry are £14 for 8.

“You pays  money you takes  your choice!” As they say....

Newline's figures are all reasonable, if a bit bland.

Here are some WIP archers:

and some WIP heroes:

I've taken the plunge and my 2021 miniatures project will be a 28mm Trojan army.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how do Foundry and Eureka scale with Newline?

Thanks.

In fairness to Newline, archers are bland. They stand still and shoot arrows. Those are nice models by the way.

Nic, I can't comment on Mycenean figure compatability but I do have a mix of Newline, Foundry and Warlord ( ex Cutting Edge) Hittites and Sea Peoples. I think the sizing is pretty consistent by each manufacturer. The height of figures is comparable, but Newline and Cutting Edge are a tad slimmer. The Foundry and Cutting Edge are also far better detailed than Newline.  A purist may say that you can match units within an army but don't mix and match within a unit.

I can't comment on Eureka as I don't have any!

NOt sure if it helps with compatibility but here are a couple of pics of my Newline DBA army. I like Newline figures as they aren't that impressive sculpts, so I tend to get them done. They work well en masse and are very good value. I have a few DBA armies from Newline.

Unfortunately I am still waiting on a missing floor for a Trojan chariot from Redoubt from January 2020.  Many emails back and forth - but not here.

Thanks folks.

si2, those look fantastic!

I have some Foundry chariots, with some Newline and Eureka in the post - also some Lucid Eye Amazons in Mycenaean kit. Happy to show some more comparisons when they all arrive.

By the way I've just seen that Newline have a 25% discount sale until January 31st.  That makes their foot figures only about 80p each which is a pretty good bargain.

Regards.
