Warmachine: Cryx Warband
« on: November 13, 2020, 03:19:11 PM »
A long time ago I made a purchase of a Cryx force that I never got around to painting up.

All this for $90 at the start of 3rd edition when warmachine lost a large amount of its player base in my area. The haul included a colossal and the battle box:

More recently I decided to finally start painting this force, and went ahead and purchased a few more items on the secondhand market, to include all these guys for just over $70:

In total I currently have the following in the warband:
  • Warcaster- Bane Witch Agathia
  • Heavy Warjack: Slayer
  • Heavy Warjack: Reaper
  • Heavy Warjack: Eberus
  • Heavy Warjack: Corruptor
  • Heavy Warjack: Malice
  • Light Warjack: Deathripper (x3)
  • Light Warjack: Ripjaw (x2)
  • Light Warjack: Nighwretch
  • Light Warjack: Defiler (x3)
  • Unit: Blackbane's Ghost Pirates (x15)
  • Unit: Bile Thralls (x10)
  • Solo: Aiakos, Scourge of the Broken Coast
  • Colossal: Kraken

I assembled and painted a few in October in time to learn the game at my uncle's over the weekend, and hope to put a big dent in this force by the end of the year. They should be great allies for my force of gatormen as well.

First unit I finished were (of course) the ghost pirates  :D

The ghostly ones:

The piratey-ones:

The genie-ones:

The "jared-leto's joker" ones, one of which was missing his leg:

And Blackbane himself:

Many moar pics, these guys were fun to paint up when I finally figured out what scheme I wanted to use:

All four models of the Battlebox are done too:

Bane Witch Agathia:

Minor conversion work done to change up her helmet (used a piece from Necromunda's Van Saar Gang) and some leftover Adeptus Mechanicus bits to give her some extra mechanical arms:

Deathripper light warjack, this guy was my test model for the warjack color schemes:

The Reaper:

and the Slayer:

Used the battlebox in my first two games of warmachine against my uncle's Retribution box. He has played a lot before, it was great to learn how to play.

Overall I won my first game, lost the second one. Not bad so far, hoping next time we play it is with a larger force.

Still in a Cryxian mood today, and finished up my Ripjaws and Nightwretch!

The Ripjaws:

The Death Chicken/Nightwretch:

All four completed light warjacks:

The original deathripper and the new nightwretch are both magnetized. Planning to make a few more heads for these guys so I can swap them out depending on my list.

Next on the painting table, Bile Thralls!

Fun to paint these ugly little fatties.

Awesome! Love seeing Warmachine painted. Played the hell out of it for 10 years, loved it do death. Still think the mechanics are some of the best ever designed.
And that Kraken model is such a beauty, had a lot of fun converting and painting mine.

These are brilliant, especially the Death Chickens. I have tried to do the really light edges as you in the past and failed miserably - you've inspired me to try again.

Nice, I really dig warmahordes.
Cryx has a really lovely cartoony evil feel about them.
I feel you paintjob fits this feel very well. Hope you kinda intended it that way.
Eiher way, I like it.

Need to paint up my Cygnar/khador/Circle/Everblight at some point.

Nice work on your Cryx collection so far.

Always liked them and the Trollbloods too.
