A Greek Odyssey - The Spartoi
« on: November 28, 2020, 12:58:26 AM »
A few of us have been bouncing about ideas to play small actions with a few Ancient Greeks and their foes.

Being a huge fan of Jason and the Argonauts I decided I’d start with a few Hydras Teeth Skeletons.  Here is my test batch.  Skellies are Wargames Atlantic.  Shield decals are Little Big Man.  They don’t fit very well but hey ho.  They are a little small and I have never used them before but they will do I suppose.

I will be doing more of them, and have a sprue of unarmoured hoplites to have a few helmets etc to mix in.

In time I will be having a go at a small batch of heroes, a few monsters and maybe some scenics.

As I mentioned, I’m only doing a few minis, including these fellows from the Footsore Mortal Gods range.

The Atlantis models cyclops was actually bought to play Sinbad!  However, there are various cyclops in Greek myth so now he will get painted.  My favourites being the cannibals living in Sicily.  With all the skulls and bones hanging from him, he seems to fit the bill. Anyway, eventually I will pluck up the courage to try and paint him.....

You say that, but I'm sure there is more to it than undercoat them
matt white &...well that's it!

Post Covid I look forward to seeing them across the table.

Cheers.

So, a slow burn for me this month, real life throwing lots of work at me so no time for hobbies.

However, I am slowly putting together these skellies.  With limited parts in the box, with contains 8 identical sprues of four, you have to go some to try and get unique posing.

I’ve found it’s easier to paint and add shields last.

I also have this little fleece mini from Wargods.....really lovely but not imposing enough on its own.  Quick look in the garden for the right pieces of slate and I have given it a rock to perch on, along with a few steps.   Sand next....

Just as a major note that you might want to fix with the earlier post on the cyclops, that's Atlantis Miniatures not Atlantis Models, they're different companies...the first is the miniatures and the other makes model kits of various types

I must admit I have been musing with the idea of a simple solo game where your mission is to move down the table with a suitably sized force of hoplites to retrieve the Golden Fleece and then head back.

Every move a unit of skellies appears randomly anywhere on the table (as they are coming out of the ground) and being magically animated automatically attacks the nearest of your units. The skellies would have no morale so the trick would be to deploy your forces to destroy each unit quickly enough to avoid being overwhelmed.
