VACW in Tacoma,WA
« on: December 18, 2020, 06:44:14 AM »
Tonight, I was looking at all of my 1/72 boxes of soldiers and model kits for WWI and Interwar and I decided I am going to start painting, assembling and converting these soldiers and model kits to make forces for a Very American Civil War in Tacoma, WA in 1932 in what is called the Old Town area. Not knowing much about the history of Tacoma in 1929, I did some research and I think I will start with 4 following factions;

Union/IWW (Longshoremen, Railway, & Lumber)
Sons of Norway
Slovak Society of Tacoma
John Carr Americans

I would appreciate any comments which may assist me with this project. When I finish units, I will post pics of them. Thank you.

Sounds like a good start to me. I started games off in Seattle fallowing the !934 West Coast Longshoremen's strike as my start off point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1934_West_Coast_waterfront_strike

But now I am leaning to stealing the break down of the 2nd ACW in KaiserReich, But in are world. mostly because it breaks the US into 5 easy to Identify uniformed blocks. But does kind of lose some of that Vary civil war flair.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Good luck with the project.  Try looking up the history of local businesses or historical landmarks in the area,  That often leads to other interesting tidbits.  Then you can start filing in the blanks.

You might also look into the Farming of the period and see if there were any large ag emplyers that might have an issue or two.
Was Boing field in operation yet?
There is that weirdly named town up there "Federal way"  That might be a source of something.
You could also do what we did which was have foreign intervention.  Support from the Soviets, Japanese, French, Brits etc.
Was there an organized crime element in Tacoma?  There must have been some form of Bootlegging.

have Fun.

Oh HELL YES there was bootlegging in the Puget Sound! The main bootlegger by the name of Roy Olmstead pretty much ran the whole thing from the sea. There were souped up speed boats, government agitators (who the locals thought were just a bunch of thugs-and they were right), pro prohibition religious groups, land side bootleggers making runs through the back country and other cool stories. So add in the Wobblies, communists, National Guard, and cops on either side of the issue and you have all kinds of opportunities for mayhem!

On a dark note you also had a decent sized Klan movent on both sides of the border, going all the way into Oregon.
And Pulley did part of his Pasific coast drive all the way up to Spokane and back.

So Count Winsky, have you gotten in any games?
Did you see there is also a group reviving this period in Florida?
