Husaria - part 2
« on: January 01, 2021, 04:32:37 PM »
A very Happy New Year to all.

I have just completed the first unit of Polish ‘Winged’ Hussars for my 1620s Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth force.  In the second blog post on my development of this unit, I cover the painting, and final construction of the unit.  You can read about the process, and see further pictures here:

https://theviaregia.blogspot.com/2021/01/husaria-polish-hussars-of-17th-century.html

The unit is made up of 28mm figures with Foundry and TAG riders, on Foundry horses.  Lance pennons and flag are from Battle Flag.  I’m now starting on a second unit :-)

Actually, out of interest, do you have a preference as between the TAG, Foundry and Warlord riders and horses?

Thanks, all.  Really appreciate your thoughts and comments.  :)

Mmm.  For the 1620s, which is period my army will be set in, the TAG and Foundry definitely fit better.  The Warlord one are better for later in the 17th century, for example 1683 Siege of Vienna. The Warlord ones have very dynamic poses, and I will probably do a unit, or two, of them just as I like the figures (and will just put up with them being less accurate for 1620s). Warlord don’t really mix in with TAG and Foundry.  I prefer the sculpts of the Foundry riders and horses, but would be more limited for poses without adding in TAG.  TAG and Foundry riders can be mixed ok, but I don’t think the horses do. (Just a personal preference.)  I plan to have 4 units of mixed TAG and Foundry riders, but keep the horses in each unit either all TAG, or all Foundry.

I haven’t really looked at Old Glory, Essex or Redoubt which are other options.

Hope that helps.

That does help. Many thanks. As I've probably said, a unit of winged hussars is on my to-do list, and I'll file that info away in my mind for when I get round to it.

Looking extremely good, and the mix of manufacturers is quite seamless  :)

Just gorgeous.  Or, as my daughter often puts it, the Polish Lancers are the Victoria's Secret models of Renaissance cavalry !

Lots of frilly lingerie underneath all that chainmail, that's for sure.
