Sarissa Buildings - Halved Buildings for Doubled Frontage

Yes odd topic title, let me explain. For my TGAA games which are based in an urban environment I need lots of buildings and I think full buildings placed on a table edge are wasted so decided to build some facades from scratch. That never got off the ground but I thought about some cheap Sarissa buildings I have so decided to halve them so I could place them along the table edge to create an urban border...

Simple and easy to do but its a really clever idea.

I'll have to try that with my modern mdf buildings. I'll have to modify them a bit (like adding doors), but halving to get double frontage is still a great idea.

Our model railway cousins have been doing low relief models for decades.
If you wargame in 20mm(ish) check out some of their 00/HO terrain manufacturers.
For 28mm try O scale. You can also try backdrops which take up even less room.

Good thinking, as has.been says common in model railways, but I’ve not seen it used in wargames before.

Would be worth suggesting to sarrisa as an option for some of their kits - I would expect it would be some small changes to their designs to add lots more options to their catalogue.

I have started to do a part of a Vietnamese city ( Hue) for my Vietnam War project. I am using mainly 3d printed houses. I will steal your idea and print only half the buildings for the edge of the table. That is quite easy with 3D files as you can cut the models e.g. in Tinkercad and print only the front half! Nice idea

Fred, I actually sent Sarissa the link to my blog post and suggested adding this option to their ranges.

has.been I wasn’t aware of low relief buildings, I have just looked at some but am not sure how the 1/43 ‘O’ scale ones will mix with my existing buildings.

Tomrommel!   Why not print some at 50%, some at slightly different e.g. 45%, 53% etc.
                      That way you will get a more interesting street as the frontages won't be
                       a perfect straight line, nor will the roof tops.

Captain Darling   Try one building, but choose one that naturally would be more imposing.
                         Something like a Pub or large shop. I often irritate my wife by pointing
                          out the 'scale difference' there is sometimes with real buildings. We have
                         a pub in Rugby that  looks like a 15mm building on a 28mm war-games table.
