Here’s a number of Saxon commanders that did service with my Middle Saxon WAB armies and are probably due for another run-out. Roughly in order of appearance, we have a fierce (and hairless) Saxon warlord; Ecgfrith of Northumbria; going back a generation or two to Edwin of Northumbria and his priest; Edwin’s slightly fanciful standard bearer (based on a description from Bede, I think); and my favourite, a standard bearer carrying the white dragon on Mercia on top of his pole. Can’t claim exact accuracy on the standards, but these are well-loved old campaigners!
