Scratchbuilt Chinese temple

After a limited success with some generic Chinese houses, I thought I'd try to make something a bit more complicated for my tiny monks to kung fu each other in and around. So I came up with this:














Apologies for the ropey pictures - it ended up a lot bigger than I intended, and I am not used to photographing things over 1" tall!

Learnt a lot from building this, such as:

1. Ruins are not easier.
2. If you have to paint the inside of the building, make it in two halves, paint, then glue together.
3. Chinese characters are really hard to carve into blue foam without cutting yourself.
4. Build things at the table - my back is killing me from sitting on the floor!

Still quite happy with the outcome, even if it bears no resemblance to my original plans. There are things I would do differently next time, and I can still spot things wrong with it every time I look again, but on the whole I'm satisfied.

I'm looking forward to your comments and criticisms.

JB has been busy. Looks great and eminently playable on - which is hard to achieve. Where are the masts and cranes for the acrobatic wires? - Oh yeah you are not meant to see them anyway Like the ramp instead of stairs idea - more playable again.

Get Darth Dodge to send you my mould - would finish it off very nicely.

Uhm, which mould is that? Is there something really obvious missing from the building?    I used as much of the tile you absolutely didn't send me as I could, but the rest was too badly damaged thanks to the combined efforts of the Post Office and the Mrs.

I thought it looked ok for a collapsed roof though...?

It looks bloody great mate - I can't see anything more you could have done with it. Courtyard walls might just look a bit more Chinese with pantile tops?

Looking very good indeed, I particulary like the tiled floor inside.

The first thought I had was it looks very playable and perfect for what you have in mind. Then I read Bago's comments and he echoed my thoughts (except that nonsense about cranes and wires.)

Keep 'em coming and you will have a splendid looking table full of goodliness.

Ah, I get you. Yes, I had thought of that, and if I have time I may add some. As it stands though, I can probably use the walls for other games, and since I'm unlikely to play this again after BLAM... well.

According to the Chinese fortune telling website I got it off, it means "Eternal Peace", or possible "Peace Eternally" depending on which way round the characters are (I can't remember which is which).

It probably means "Death to the West".

That's a good looking piece JB.

Since it's a ruin, you could perhaps add a couple of piles of rubble (viz. aquarium gravel or whatever) at the foot of the walls in a few places.

Don't glue it onto your nice laminate flooring though

Thanks for the offer Dodge, but I think I'll leave them as is. This way I can always use them for other settings and quite frankly, I can't be bothered messing with this one anymore. Too much other stuff to do.

Capn, I thought about rubble, but that would reduce the available space inside, and well, see above.
