Excellent work. My hat is off to you Sir.

I second that, pure genius :)

And once again, I wonder whether I deserve to post when such wonders are being put up. Beautiful work, man.

Impossible to argue with that.

You've really raised the bar with this model. As the others said, so many wonderful small details, great imagination to visualise the final result and superb finishing.

My favourite part is the brass filigree bits on the "GLC". Just the sort of useless, expensive and impractical thing a slightly deranged Victorian inventor might add to a weapon of mass destruction. A small but perfect addition.

I love your take on the RA uniforms too.

I may be a bit slow off the mark but I have only just realised why it is called Lord Kelvin's (I think?)

sorry, but I don't get it what electricity and thermodynamics (Lord Kelvin's fields of expertise) would have to do with stimulated particle emmisson (rays) or conductor-free energy transmission (my presumed principle of operation for the weapon)
apart from the fact that Kelvin invented a GALVANOMETER, which might relate more to the name of the weapon
my guess is that it's simply a fancy name and sounds victorian

if I went with my guess, the name would have to do with Tesla, somehow late victorian and edwardian
but the Gun is definetely a victorian masterpiece, along with the steam tractor

is there something like Edwardian Science Fiction? ;)
or would this be called Dieselpunk? or Raypunk? or Retro-Raygun? ;)

Errr, no.  lol

There are some very good VSF / Steampunk-novels around by authors James P. Blaylock, K. W. Jeter and Tim Powers, and one of my alltime favourites is "Lord Kelvin's Machine" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Kelvin%27s_Machine

Although the very powerful device invented in this novel is for time-travelling and has nothing to do with my cannon, it was crystal clear from the moment I started on this gun that it must be Lord Kelvin's etc. pp.  :D

Sir, I can assure you that MY gun IS a galvanic lightning cannon.

And it's VERY infernal, too!

If not devastating.

Ah

thank You for enlarging my horizon on Steampunk literature
it seems I got tangled up between real and fictional characters here

my fault here - it seems to be an interesting book
but no matter what fancy name You choose for Your indeed infernally and devastatingly faultless model, it rocks nevertheless Admiral Sir  8)

so call it Uncle Tom's rock lobber or whatever You like, doesn't change a bit  ;)

That is one awesome weapon and a brilliant scratchbuilt piece!

I have been gathering my own bits and pieces together to do my own "really big gun" and this is great inspiration.

I can't wait to see some battle photos of this gun in action.

terrific work!

Cheers
Fuzzy.
Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.
