Primer for Resin?

Hi, just wondering what would be a good primer for resin models?
Any tips?

There is a special brush-on resin primer from Tamiya that is available in most hobby shops.
I have it somewhere in my workshop, but never got round to trying it.

I always use acrylic matt white from a spray can because it is quicker, Citadel works fine.

always wash your resin pieces with a soapy watersolution before painting to remove the release agent, then prime.

Yup. I usually prime with GW spray after cleaning with detergent and have never had problems; if you prime by hand, however, you´re in for quite a ride.

I use the Modell Primer spray, available from most hobby shops these days, as it is a bit cheaper than GW spray primer. And since I know that I don't use release agent with my own resin stuff, I don't bother washing it. Generally speaking, it is a good idea though. I once had a resin kit which in my adolescent flippancy I primed without washing. With the slightest touch of the brush, large primer flakes came off. I had to strip the whole model and do it all over again.

Another vote for car primer. I use Halfords Acrylic body primer, comes in Red, Black, White and Grey. They do acrylic sprays in loads of colours, they aren't primers but may do the job, not tried them.

I use Halfords Matt Black spray, not the primer, just the regular paint.

A bad experience with a spray primer that contained some sort of filler put me off anything marked "Primer".  It ate all the little "dents" in my model and left me with e wonderfully flat surface to paint.  :(

I use basic hardware-store primer, too. Generally grey, although there's a can of black primer around here somewhere.

I buy whatever's on sale, haven't had a bad lot in ten years of painting now.

Hobby primers are insanely expensive - GW charges double hardware-store prices, for crying out loud, and the Testors hobbystore stuff is even worse.

I have used mostly Floquil Grey spray primer for my resin and it works well.  Nice color to paint up from for scenery pieces too...

Though I need to find another source for it now that I have moved to California... perhaps a model railroad shop will
stock it?
