I have utmost confidence in his ability to surprise... he'll have progressed considerably when next he posts, unless himself and Michi are debating a new Anglo-German naval treaty to limit tonnage.  :D

oh well, these matters can be solved easily by building much smaller subs and dive bombers ;)

speaking of which, may I temporarily hijack this thread to ask if anyone knows about suitable torpedo models?

I need some for my tiny naval project

I think either Krick or Steinhagen Modelltechnik had some in their ship model accessories´ range. Otherwise, if you have to option to do so, I would suggest turning the bodies on a lathe [Drehbank], then adding fins, props and other details from plasticard or cardboard.

no, I don't have the option
there is only a fixed drill I can use

but I am too lazy to scratch build 6 torpedoes, which look rather boring
I'd rather use wooden rods or ballpens if I have to
maybe wooden rods could be an easy idea
but if there are cheap ones to buy...

do you have any links?

Hello former user,
1/40 torpedoes are available here:
http://data.robbe-online.net/robbe_pdf_en/1583.pdf
go to this page and search for "Torpedo"

maybe this is useful for you...

the impetus of which seems to have slowed down since the explosive start  ;)

No, I just haven't posted any photos... :D

Currently I am coating the hull in a polyfiller/PVA Glue mix, which when it has set, i'll sand down, and trim up with a sharp knife - slow (the model is 3 times the size of the destroyer)  and tedious, and not very exciting from a photographic point of view... ;)

oh, and i've assembled and primed a number of tanks....but that is besides the point.

 :)

Whole ones...?  Roll some milliput into a sausage, and when it is dry stick some fins on.   ;)

In the water...?  Make some milliput ripples, on a bit of plasticard

thanks
the Robbe stuff I already checked, they are too big and far too expensive  :(

milliput sausages?
bit of unprecise or not? and then - 6 eels of 1cm diameter and 12 cm length in milliput?
ehm - this would be some 979 ccm of miliput... 10x10x10 cm approx.  :o
I need to put them on racks on my steampunk s-boat

naah, if I can't buy cheap ones from a model supplier I'll stick to the wooden rods and fixed drill
the finns will be trouble enough
unless someone knows of these aircraft arming kits containing torpedoes??
this I would prefer and wouldn't be too pecky about the size

so, my guess on your carrier was correct
how do you deal with the stench and the tension cracks on such a surface?

Moduni sells some:

http://www.moduni.de/product_info.php/products_id/6268022

1/72nd scale, but that might be just right if your torpedo boat is of "condensed game scale".

Otherwise, I would suggest doing a master model using wooden dowel of 6-8mm diameter, a pencil sharpener and sanding paper for the round tip. After adding the fins, you could do a mould using silicone, then cast as many as you like; since it is a simple shape, making the mould wouldn´t be too difficult.

eer...no, you are out by a factor of more than 10 - 1x1x12x6 = 72 not 979cm... ;)

thanks

No doubt about it, you were spot on...I haven't finished it yet....in fact, as the "hull" could loosely be interpreted as about 95% of the total model (as it is a flat top, with a 6mm thick landing deck) I guess I'll be working on the hull for a while yet.... ;)

how do you deal with the stench

I shower regularly

how do you deal with .....the tension cracks on such a surface?

A decent bottle of wine helps....apart from that there is no tension.

yep

just thought about this
I think even a plaster mould would do - anyone want torpedoes?  ;)
damn, would be too expensive to send them with that weight

thanks for the moduni link
god, these are even more expensive than the Robbe ones
multipart resin kit for a torpedo!!
these people are insane - don't You think too?

sorry for bitching around - it's late and I'm tired - I should go to bed

You sometimes (although rarely) find model aircraft in £1 shops (my keyboard doesn't have a euro), it might be cheaper to look for a cheap aircraft model and cannibalise it. Sounds odd to buy a torpedo-bomber just for the torpedo, but you might strike lucky.

I rather thought of aircraft arming kits with bombs and torpedoes only
would be only 2 torpedoes in an aircraft kit anyway, I guess

how is the carrier proceeding?
